Answer: Pauline Hanson

In the late 90's, Pauline Hanson was the leader of the controversial One Nation Party.
She became widely known for two particular catch phrases after a 1996 interview by Tracey Curro of the 60 Minutes program.
Asked by interviewer "Are you xenophobic?" Hanson's response was "Please explain". She apparently did not understand the meaning of the word.
Later in the same interview, Curro asked for Hanson's opinion on the pro-homosexual Mardi Gras: Hanson answered "I don't like it; because it's promoting something that's not natural." (A caricature of Hanson and an endlessly repeated recording of the hypernasal "I don't like it" became a float theme at the next Sydney Mardi Gras.)

During the 2002 Winter Olympics, Roy and HG Nelson had a program called "The Ice Dream". Part of this was their campaign for Smiggins Holes (not even one of the bigger Australian ski resorts) to host the 2010 Olympics. Over 17 thousand people registered to be volunteers, to be known as Smiggs Pigs, and a range of merchandise was even produced.

Answer: Victor Chang

Chang was murdered on 4 July 1991, following an extortion attempt on his family. He was shot twice in the head with a .32 calibre pistol in Mosman after a heated argument with his attackers on his way to work. After a 10 day investigation, 15 police raids, and the questioning of over 30 people, Chiew Seng Liew was charged with the murder, and Jimmy Tan was charged as an accessory.

The entire incident was allegedly related to issues surrounding transplant waiting lists.

Janine Shepherd was a champion cross country skier in training to represent Australia at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary when her life was irrevocably altered. She was run over by a truck during a bike ride to the scenic Blue Mountains of New South Wales and was not expected to live. With horrific injuries including a broken neck and back,although she started to recover, she was told she would not walk again or bear children. Against the odds she fought back.

Not only did she walk again, have two children and return to university and gain a degree in Human Movement, she took up flying and gained her private pilot's licence, commercial licence and her instructor's permit.
