1. In horse racing, how would the term 'breaking away' be used?

Answer: Breaking away from the pack

When the race is tight, the horse or horses who start running quicker than the rest are said to be breaking away from the pack.
This term can be used for any competition where one or two of the competitors start significantly out-running the opposition.
2. South America is said to have broken away from which other continent?

Answer: Africa

Alfred Wegener first coined the term continental drift in the early 1900s to describe the movement of whole continents which used to be connected in one large continent called Pangaea.

One of the most popular indications of this is to look at a map of the Atlantic and notice how the shapes of Africa and South America seem to fit together. Research has shown that the topographical patterns of the two continents coincide.
