Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This secret could be high.

Answer: Society

When I was much younger than I am today, I belonged to a secret society called 'The Pooh Club'. Each member had a code name taken from any of A.A. Milne's works. I was Tigger (because I bounced!)
2. This is the Queen's secret.

Answer: Service

If you're a Bond fan, you got this in one! Why Walsingham for a clue, you ask? Sir Francis Walsingham was Queen Elizabeth the First's Spymaster.
3. Did you get a card from yours?

Answer: Secret Admirer

When my sister was little, she got a valentine at school from her secret admirer. She was very upset because she didn't know anyone in her class named Secret Admirer and she thought someone was teasing her!
4. Frances Hodgson Burnett dreamed this one up.

Answer: The Secret Garden

A children's classic, 'The Secret Garden' has been enchanting readers for over a century.
5. Doris Day sang about this.

Answer: Secret Love

Doris Day played Calamity Jane opposite Howard Keel's Wild Bill Hickok in the diverting 1953 movie (Day always said it was her favourite role). If you've never seen the film, rent it, and watch Miss Day do her own incredible stunts. 'My Secret Love' was on the hit parade (remember the hit parade?) for weeks, and every time one turned on the radio, one heard Doris telling her secret love to the golden daffodils!
6. I swiped the title of this quiz from an American TV panel show from the 1950s. Do you remember who hosted the show?

Answer: Garry Moore

The affable Mr. Moore stumped celebrity panellists for 12 seasons (1952-1964) with hidden guests with a secret. One of the best guests was Chico Marx disguised as his brother Harpo!
7. Who made a big deal out of their secret sauce, and had all of North America chanting the jingle?

Answer: McDonald's

Just in case you'd forgotten, it's "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame seed bun"
While McDonald's promoted the sauce as 'special' rather than 'secret', top executives suffered a corporate meltdown when it was discovered that the secret recipe had disappeared! They had to bring back the retired CEO to find out what was in it, and he had to wrack his brains to find the one guy who knew what that stuff is made of! If I had to guess, I'd say it was sandwich spread and ketchup mixed together.
8. There are 15 books about this group of young detectives.

Answer: The Secret Seven

Enid Blyton, one of the most prolific and popular authors of children's books, started the Secret Seven series in 1949 and the last one came off the presses in 1963. Peterswood was a clue because that's where the tiny 'tecs lived.
9. Who was the person who gave the world "a secret blend of eleven herbs and spices"? (No need for the first name.)

Answer: Colonel Sanders

Colonel Harland Sanders, the distinguished-looking purveyor of Kentucky Fried Chicken, started titillating taste buds 'way back in 1939 with his recipe. Legend has it that he carried the secret recipe in his head and had a bag of the spice-and-herb mixture in his car at all times!
10. It started in the early '70s and has been delighting women - and adolescent males - ever since.

Answer: Victoria's Secret

Founded in California in the early 1970s by Roy Raymond, Victoria's Secret sold sensual, silky underthings via catalogue and quickly became a byword in the lingerie business. There are now over 1,000 Victoria's Secret stores, and V.S. is in the top ten list of lingerie brands worldwide.
