Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Literally, to give a "tithe" is to give what?

Answer: ten percent

A Tithe is the "religious act of giving a tenth for the support of a religious purpose." This is a Biblical concept.
2. What do the abbreviations C.A.T. stand for in referring to a "CAT Scan" exam?

Answer: Computed Axial Tomography

Until I wrote this quiz and looked it up to be sure, I thought it stood for Computer Assisted Topography...hmmm?
3. What was the intended purpose of the top portion (below the TV antenna) of the Empire State Building?

Answer: a docking point for blimps

They actually wanted blimps to dock at the top! It was a very serious notion until two things compromised the plan. Firstly, while some local VIPs were standing at the top "observing", a large gust of wind almost blew them off. Secondly, a Navy blimp tried to dock, but was blown off balance by a gust of wind. Having to stabilize, it released all of its water (used for ballast) and flooded 34th street! I guess a TV antenna was a more practical thought.
4. What is the capital city of British Columbia, Canada?

Answer: Victoria

Actually located on Vancouver Island, Victoria was founded in 1843 by the Hudson Bay Company as a trading post and fort. In 1871, British Columbia became the sixth province to join the Dominion of Canada and Victria was nominated the capital.
5. What does the letter "K" stand for in K-Mart?

Answer: Kresge

More than one hundred years ago, Sebastian Spering Kresge opened a modest five-and-dime store in downtown Detroit...and changed the entire landscape of retailing. The store that Kresge built (K-Mart) has evolved into an empire of more than 1,800 stores. When Kresge opened his first store, he sold everything for 5 or 10 cents.
