Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This random article describes "a series of thirty live recordings by American punk band Fugazi, released on CD-Rs in 2004 and 2005." What is that series called, exactly?

Answer: Fugazi Live Series

Fugazi - whom, I must add, I've never heard of before - are an American post-hardcore punk band consisting of guitarists and vocalists Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto, bassist Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty. They are known for having a very down-to-earth approach to the music business and have tried to establish a $5 admission fee to their concerts because they felt that fans were being ripped off by exorbitant ticket prices.
2. Which random article am I going to get? Here it is: Earle Leonard Wells (born in 1933). He won the Olympic Gold for New Zealand in which discipline?

Answer: yachting (sailing)

He won the Flying Dutchman class at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo in 1964. Officially, those games were known as the Games of the XVIII Olympiad.
3. A click on Random Article takes me to "Roi Et United F.C.", a semi-professional football club located in the northeast of which Asian country?

Answer: Thailand

The club was formed in 2009 as Roi Et Football Club, named after the Roi Et Province in Thailand. They were renamed in 2010.
4. "Arie van den Brand" is the random article that pops up when I click the button. He is a Dutch GreenLeft politician. As a spokesperson for the Dutch House of Representatives, he was responsible for agriculture, nature management and food safety, among other things. What, however, has he taken a strong stance against?

Answer: violent animal liberation activism

He once said that it was "appalling that violent animal activism does not respect any notion of the rule of law" and went on to strongly condemn any violent form of animal activism. Mind you, he was against the violence, not against animal liberation.
5. I click on Random Article and end up on a disambiguation page. Apparently, there are three people named Chris Jarvis in the database. Who is the odd one out?

Answer: Australian Nobel Prize laureate

No Australian called Chris Jarvis has received a Nobel Prize so far, and if that should happen in the future, I promise I will update this question immediately.
6. Clicking Random Article, I end up on a page describing "Aspitha". This is a genus of skippers. What type of animal is a skipper?

Answer: butterfly

Skippers are names so because they are very quick, agile flyers. They can be found anywhere on earth, and there are about 3,500 recognized species.
7. "Frank Temile" is a random article. Frank Temile is a Nigerian sportsman. What is his sport?

Answer: football (soccer)

Temile has played as a striker for FC Dynamo Kyiv in the Ukrainian Premier League. Before that, he played for Nigeria and then Malta.
8. Random Article: "Marcus Antonius". I almost thought I finally ended up with someone familiar, but then I see it is not "the" Mark Antony (Roman general, friend of Caesar and lover of Cleopatra), but his grandfather. That is why the article gives his profession in brackets. What was Marcus Antonius's profession (hint: Cicero held him in very high esteem)?

Answer: orator

His son, Marcus Antonius Creticus, was the father of Mark Antony.
None of his own speeches have survived, so we have to rely on what Cicero says about him.
9. The click on Random Article takes me to "Molesworth Street" in the capital of New Zealand. What is that capital?

Answer: Wellington

Although both Auckland and Christchurch are larger than Wellington in terms of inhabitants, Wellington is the capital of the country.
10. This random article is about a United States Navy sailor who received the Medal of Honor in 1910. His name sounds German; in fact, his last name looks like the German word for "wood" (with only one letter that does not belong). Who is this man?

Answer: August Holtz

The citation on Holtz's medal reads: "On board the U.S.S. North Dakota, for extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession during the fire on board that vessel, 8 September 1910."
Holtz (which looks indeed like "Holz", which is German for "wood") and five others were presented with the Medal of Honor when they single-handedly prevented their ship from exploding after a fire in the engine room.
