It is commonly known as the "Maracană Stadium" after the middle-class neighbourhood of northern Rio de Janeiro where it is located. The capacity later became 78,838 but the record set in 1950 was 199,854. The stadium was partially rebuilt in preparation for the 2014 World Cup, when it saw Germany defeat Argentina in the final.
