1. What is the name of the highest mountain in the Pyrenees?

Answer: Aneto

The Pyrenees stretch for over 300 miles between the Bay of Biscay and Mediterranean Sea, and form the border between France and Spain. At over 11,000 feet, Aneto is the highest mountain in the range, and the third largest in Spanish territory. It is located in the province of Huesca.
2. Which Russian seaport lies on the banks of the Northern Divina River near its mouth in the White Sea?

Answer: Arkhangelsk

Arkhangelsk was the chief seaport of northern Russia until being replaced by St Petersburg in the early 18th century. During the Second World War, Archangelsk, along with Murmansk, was one of the two major destinations of the Arctic Convoys which brought much needed supplies to the USSR. In the early 21st century, the port was open to shipping year-round due to the use of icebreakers.
3. What is the name of the largest city in Jutland, and the second-largest city in Denmark altogether?

Answer: Aarhus

Aarhus lies on the east coast of Jutland on the shores of the Bay of Aarhus. The city's economy is mainly service-based, with many of Denmark's largest companies based there. The city is also a tourist destination due to its museums, arts venues and festivals.

Aachen is a spa city in North-Rhine Westphalia, and was a major Roman settlement in the early first millennium A.D. Charlemagne, the first Holy Roman Emperor, is buried in the city's cathedral, which was also the site of the coronations of German Kings and Queens up until 1531. Heavily damaged during World War 2, the city was rebuilt and became a major technology hub.
8. Which Spanish port is located in the Valencia Community, and is a major transportation hub for tourists visiting Spain's Mediterranean coast?

Answer: Alicante

Alicante is located south of Valencia, on the Costa Blanca. For centuries a port and trading centre, it was transformed by tourism after World War 2. The harbour is a departure point for cruise ships, whilst its airport is one of the busiest in Spain, with tourists arriving year-round on their way to the beaches of the Mediterranean.
9. Which of the following is the highest capital city of a European country, as well as being a renowned tax haven?

Answer: Andorra la Vella

Andorra la Vella, which means "Andorra the Town" to distinguish it from the country, is the highest capital in Europe, located in the Pyrenees at a height of over 1,000 metres. The town (and the entire country of Andorra) relies mainly on tourism to sustain its economy, with duty-free shopping being a major attraction.

Answer: Avignon

Antwerp, in Belgium, hosted the 1920 Summer Olympics; Amsterdam was the host for the Summer Olympics in 1928; Albertville, in France, hosted the 1992 Winter Olympics. Avignon, which didn't host the Olympics, is a city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region of France, best known as the residence of the Pope between 1309 and 1377.
