Lisbon is the capital of Portugal, and once again, we have a country whose capital city is also its largest city.

Portugal is the westernmost country in Europe. I found the following oddity so interesting I had to include it here. One of Lisbon's most fascinating tourist attractions is one that most visitors will probably never see unless they go in September. It is The underground "galerias romanas" which is Portuguese for underground Roman galleries. According to the folks there it is a crypt dating back to the 1st century BC. It is in Lisbon's downtown area, but the difficulty in getting to see it lies in it being open to the public only in September. That is because the gallery is physically difficult to access, so, of course the lines of people waiting to see it are very long with expected waiting time up to three and a half hours. Even then, getting to it is problematic as you have to enter through a hole in the middle of the street - while motor vehicle traffic is still active!
