Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Liffey

Answer: Dublin

The Liffey is 82 miles, 132 kms, long. It rises in the Wicklow Mountains and flows through Dublin City, capital of the Republic of Ireland, into the Irish Sea at Dublin Bay. The major part of the river's course is in fact through Co Kildare. Contrary to popular belief, Guinness is not made from water from the Liffey as it passes through Dublin City.

It is taken from the Wicklow Mountains. [Source of information: Guinness official website.]
2. Lee

Answer: Cork

The Lee is 90km, 55miles, long and rises in the Shehy Mountains. It flows east through Co Cork - the city is on an island between two streams of the river. It discharges into the Celtic Sea. The Lee is an important river for water-borne recreation, as well as salmon fishing.
3. Moyola

Answer: Derry

The Moyola is 31 miles, 50km, long. It flows from the Sperrin Mountains into Lough Neagh. The lough's biggest claim to fame is that it is the largest freshwater lake in the United Kingdom.
4. Lagan

Answer: Down

The Lagan is 53 miles, 186km, long. It rises in the Mountains of Mourne and flows through Belfast into the Irish Sea at Belfast Lough. In the 1800s, a canal linked the Lagan to Lough Neagh. Nowadays, the river is known for sporting uses, notably rowing.
5. Boyne

Answer: Meath

The Boyne is 70miles, 110km, long. It rises in Co Kildare and flows through Co Meath to the Irish Sea. The most famous thing about the Boyne is the battle that was fought there between the forces of King James II and King William III in July 1690. The reasons for that battle and its consequences remain hotly debated even after all these years.

It is too continuous a subject to dwell upon in a fun quiz!

9. Slaney
