West Lafayette is a city in Indiana, on the opposite bank of the Wabash River from Lafayette. It was founded in 1888 by the merger of the towns of Chauncey, Kingston, and Oakwood. Purdue University is named after local industrialist, John Purdue.

Williamsburg replaced Jamestown as capital of the Virginia Colony in 1698, and retained this status until 1780. Much of the early settlement has been restored as Colonial Williamsburg, a major tourist attraction in the early 21st century.
