Deadhorse is 265 miles inside the Arctic Circle, on the Beaufort Sea. The highway south to Fairbanks is officially called the Dalton Highway, but is frequently called the "haul road". Fred and I begin our journey.

Answer: White Pass&Yukon

This is a narrow gauge railway built during the time of the Klondike Gold Rush. Nowadays, it only travels 40 of the original 110 mile journey. But Wow! Wow!Wow! what scenery from Skagway in Alaska to Bennett in British Columbia.

Answer: 1932

This is a World Heritage Site, made from Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada and Glacier National Park in Montana, USA. It is a photographer's heaven.

Answer: Illinois

These are found 13 km north-east of St. Louis, Missouri. They are the largest pre-Columbian settlement north of Mexico. The tallest mound is called Monks Mound.

These dwellings were built from the 6th to the 12th century at an altitude of 2,600m. They have always fascinated me.

The National Steinbeck Centre is in Old Salinas. There is also a programme to refurbish Main Street in Old Salinas, to replicate days gone by.

This is home to marine turtles, manatees and the American marine crocodile.

Thin air, and dizzying heights are the reward for reaching the original Condor Pass. Here the condors are protected. The canyon is deeper than the Grand Canyon but is terraced on the sides as the Incas cultivated the land.

This is the Inca new year celebrated at the Winter solstice. Festivities begin outside the Cathedral of Santo Domingo in Cuzco and last for a week.

A helicopter ride over the falls is terrifying but thrilling. A few more days in the Iguazu National Park filming jaguars, ocelots , tapirs, howler monkeys, caymans, giant anteaters would be super. Wow! what a great way to end a dream holiday.
