The attack on Rotterdam was one of the main reasons that the Dutch capitulated. The Germans announced the bombing of more Dutch cities if the Dutch did not surrender.

The bombers were followed by a German He 177 bomber and on the 22nd of June 1944 the Luftwaffe Kampfgeschwader attacked the airfield. Forty-three B-17s were destroyed and 26 damaged and 15 P-51 fighters destroyed.
