Some chorus girl (I think the name is Ethel but I am not sure): Oh, look, it's Anytime Annie. Who could forget her? She only said no once, and then she didn't hear the question.
Annie: Hey Ethel, too bad your mother didn't have any children

Answer: Billy Lawlor

Billy is one of Broadway's better juveniles, as he himself admits. He also thinks Peggy is hot stuff and tries to get her a part in "Pretty Lady" right away.

Answer: Andy Lee

Andy Lee is the director of the dance of "Pretty Lady". He is the first more major character we see: he is auditioning with all of the chorus dancers. Andy and Mac are often called in together to do stuff for Julian.

Answer: Dorothy Brock

Dorothy Brock is something of a diva, as we will see in this little exchange. This is right after the auditions. Julian meets Dorothy and they get started on the show.

Dorothy: I checked the contract and added a few items; redecorated dressing room, private maid, limo. The salary was fine, I just added an extra 0.
Bert: Now see here Dorothy, we don't--
Dorothy: If there's any problem, I won't insist. We'll just pedal our Kiddie Cars and you can pedal your fish.

Julian: Miss Brock, I would like to try you out on one of the numbers.
Abner Dillon: Now wait a minute. Dorothy don't have to try out. She's already got the part.
Dorothy: Thank you Mr. Dillon. What would I do without you?
Julian: I don't think you understood me, Miss Brock. I'd like to see if you can handle the part.
Dorothy: If you're asking ME to audition Mr. Marsh, the answer in no.
Bert Barry: No no, Dorothy. Julian just wants to see if the song's in the right key.

Bert seems to have a fairly large part in "Pretty Lady." He seems to be the supporting male role (Billy is the lead). As we see, he marries "Anytime" Annie in "Shuffle Off to Buffalo."

Dorothy has Abner Dillon in her back pocket, according to Julian Marsh. But when Julian and Bert find out Dorothy is secretly seeing another man, Bert tells him to "beat it, Miss Brock's official gentleman friend is in the house." Julian and Bert react this way because Abner is financially backing "Pretty Lady." If he finds out about Dorothy's secret paramour, he will take the money out of "Pretty Lady" and it will have to close.

When the other man doesn't seem to get the message, Julian sends thugs after him.

Answer: Pat Denning

Pat Denning was Dorothy's former Vaudeville partner. Unfortunately, Dorothy made it big, and he didn't, which meant they didn't see each other much. When Julian sends thugs with a message for him to "lay off that Brock dame", Pat joins a stock company in Philadelphia, which, coincidentally, is where "Pretty Lady" is opening.

Answer: Mac

Mac seems to be Julian's henchman. He is always just within earshot of Julian, and often fetches him things, (Mac, phone; Mac, two shinbuster's, one right, one left.) Mac also is in charge of making sure everything runs smoothly.

Ocsar is the stage pianist. There are other pianists down in the orchestra pit, however. Oscar never says anything, although people sometimes say things to him.
