The Tleilaxu were alsways experimenting with the limits of human genes. The face changers could change their skin and voice to look like anyone, but people trained in perception could spot fakes. Skytale wore quite a few faces during "Dune Messiah", but never fooled Paul Atreides.

Answer: Edric of the Spacing Guild

The navigators of the spacing guild had a weaker version of the prescience that Paul Atreides had, allowing them to see into the future. This was vital for navigating the depths of space, but it also shielded activities near to them from Paul's prescience. By having a navigator in the conspiracy, they were able to hide it from Paul, the emperor.

Answer: A child

Irulan was also a Bene Gesserit. They had a breeding program extending hundreds of years to create the Kwisatz Haderach, but their plans were upset when the Lady Jessica had a boy (Paul) instead of a girl. The Bene Gesserit were trying to regain control of Paul's genes by having him sire a child with Irulan. Paul refused, partially because he did not want to give the Bene Gesserit another pawn, and partially because he only loved his Fremen wife, Chani.

Answer: Duncan Idaho, the Atreides Swordmaster

Duncan Idaho was a great friend and teacher of Paul in "Dune". He died saving Paul's life. Apparently his body was recovered soon after his death, preserved, and brought to the Tleilaxu to be remade as a ghola. The conspirators gave the ghola to Paul as a gift, hoping it would cause Paul's Fremen to abandon him.

They also planted a compulsion in the ghola to kill Paul when a trigger phrase was said.

Answer: 61 billion

The jihad in Paul's name was the most catastrophic loss of life in human history. Paul told his advisor and right-hand man Stilgar that he had sterilized 90 worlds, and subdued another 500. Paul asked Stilgar to review the history of Earth; to learn about Ghengis Kahn and Hitler.

Answer: Paul lost his eyes

The stone burner sent out a burst of J-rays, a fictional type of radiation that damaged eye tissue. Paul's eyes were burned away. Paul could still "see" with his oracular vision, but his loss of eyes was dangerous politically. When a Fremen was blinded, they were sent out into the desert to die. Paul, despite being blinded, did not leave for the desert, ignoring Fremen custom and straining their allegiance.

Answer: He foresaw Chani's death during childbirth

Paul foresaw Chani dying in childbirth. He found out that his wife, Irulan, was feeding Chani contraceptives to prevent the child, but he wasn't angry because it meant he had more time with his beloved. When Chani did get pregnant, there were complications due to the poison. What Paul hadn't foreseen was that Chani had carried twins.

Answer: No

The Tleilaxu were very interested in their ghola, Hayt. If he followed through with his programming, it meant the conspiracy was successful. If he did not, it meant that they were able to fully recreate a human's personality and memories after death. Hayt struggled the entire novel between identifying as Hayt or Duncan Idaho.

When his love for Paul broke the compulsion, he became Duncan fully.

Answer: Paul killed Skytale

Skytale offered to bring Chani back from the dead, using the fully restored Duncan Idaho as an example of their capabilities. All he wanted in return was Paul's CHOAM holdings (wealth) and for him to renounce his status as a religious figurehead. Skytale made this offer while holding a knife to Paul's newborn twins. A link opened between Paul and his son, letting Paul see through his son's eyes. Using his Bene Gesserit training and his new viewing vantage, Paul managed to flick a knife into Skytale's eye before the face changer could react.

Paul had Duncan Idaho kill Bijaz, the other Tleilexu agent, when he made the same offer. Chani would never want to be a ghola, something the Fremen reviled.

Answer: He walked into the desert alone

After losing his wife and saving his children, Paul finally lost his prescience and oracular vision. Becoming truly blind, Paul followed the Fremen tradion of wandering into the desert to die, securing his legacy and the respect of the Fremen. He left his children in the care of the Fremen and his sister, Alia.
