1. Why didn't Katrina allow people to take Kira to the field when she was born?

Answer: Kira had bright eyes and strong hands.

Katrina wouldn't let them take Kira away to the field to be eaten by beasts, because Kira had such bright eyes and very strong hands. Katrina knew that she couldn't have any more children because her husband had been killed by beasts.

Answer: They lowered their eyes when she looked at them.

Kira noticed that if she looked some of the women in the eyes, they would look away. This gave Kira confidence to talk back so they wouldn't hurt her.

Branch had been hit by a car, and was severely injured. Matt found him near death, and nursed him back to health. Matt also used a branch as a splint for his tail.
