The "Kitty Norville" series of books is written by Carrie Vaughn. The first one, "Kitty and the Midnight Hour" was first published in 2005.

He is the brother of Sissy Mae, the ringleader of the bullies, but Jess is no longer a frightened young girl; she stands up for her man and marries him.
Jess and Bobby Ray's story is told in "The Beast in Him", published in 2008.
