The March sisters, in order of oldest to youngest, are Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. Amy is twelve at the start of the book. She has blonde hair and blue eyes and an interest in art.

"Little Women" is made of two parts. The first was published in 1868 and the second in 1869. It follows the lives of the four March sisters. The book had two sequels, "Little Men" in 1871 and "Jo's Boys" in 1886.
