Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Rogue Squadron"

Rogue Squadron was a legendary, best-of-the-best starfighter squadron formed by Luke Skywalker between "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back". It was disbanded before "Return of the Jedi". This novel took place two years later, with Wedge Antilles, an original member, reforming the squadron.

This novel, "Star Wars: X-wing: Rogue Squadron", is not to be confused with the comic series, "Star Wars: X-wing Rogue Squadron", also written by Michael A. Stackpole and published around the same time, but with a mostly different cast of characters.
2. "Wedge's Gamble"

The Emperor and Darth Vader were killed in "The Return of the Jedi", but the capital planet, Coruscant, was still controlled by the Empire. Wedge Antilles and his squadron hatched a plan to take the planet, finally transforming the Rebel Alliance into the New Republic.
3. "The Krytos Trap"

Ysanne Isard was the leader of the Imperial Remnant and the primary antagonist for the first "X-wing" story arc. As the Rebels took Coruscant, she unleashed a deadly plague that notably affected non-humans. The new controllers of Coruscant inherited a humanitarian disaster that stretched their resources and dried up any goodwill the locals may have felt.
4. "The Bacta War"

Bacta was a miracle medicine, which was sorely needed to combat the Krytos virus Isard had released in the previous novel. It was a plant native to the planet Thyferra, which Isard conquered, further straining medical supplies. The New Republic was unable to properly deal with this threat, so Wedge and the rest of Rogue Squadron quit the military, bought their own ships, and fought Isard on their own.
5. "Wraith Squadron"

Michael A. Stackpole's four-novel arc was completed. Bantam, the publisher of the novels, asked Stackpole to continue the series. Stackpole declined, but recommended his friend, Aaron Allston.

"Wraith Squadron" was the beginning of a new squadron. Unlike the elite Rogues, the Wraiths were a more eclectic bunch, and were officially a half-commando squad, ready to take on a larger variety of missions.
6. "Iron Fist"

The primary antagonist for the "Wraith Squadron" arc was Warlord Zsinj, whose personal Super Star Destroyer was the Iron Fist. The Wraiths continued their campaign against Zsinj, posing as a mercenary unit working for him to get close.
7. "Solo Command"

"The Courtship of Princess Leia" by Dave Wolverton was published in 1994, five years before "Solo Command". It started with Han Solo returning from his campaign against Warlord Zsinj. "Solo Command" serves as a prequel to that novel, telling the story of Han Solo working with the Wraiths. Zsinj was defeated in Wolverton's novel, so readers knew he would survive this one.
8. "Isard's Revenge"

Michael A. Stackpole returned to write a single-novel story that served as an epilogue to his earlier arc, and to the "Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron" comics. Isard was a main antagonist in both. It's revealed that her apparent defeat in "The Bacta War" was actually that of a clone (a recurring trope in "Star Wars"). This novel depicted the real Isard's defeat.
9. "Starfighters of Adumar"

This novel was a self-contained adventure featuring just four famous pilots: Wedge Antilles, Derek "Hobbie" Klivian, Wes Janson (all seen in the movies), and Tycho Celchu. They went to the newly rediscovered planet of Adumar as ambassadors to convince them to join the New Republic.

The Empire was also there to make its case. Wedge began his relationship with Iella Wessiri, who would become his wife, in this novel.
10. "Mercy Kill"

"Mercy Kill" was published in 2013, fourteen years after the previous installment, and decades later in the timeline. It took place after the "Fate of the Jedi" novels, the last long, multi-author "Star Wars" series before the great Disney reset. "Mercy Kill" was a self-contained story about Wraith Squadron, populated by the next generation of characters (with a few returning veterans), and working as a part of New Republic Intelligence instead of the military.
