Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Manse Everard is the man we follow through his adventures as a member of the Time Patrol. In which year was he recruited?

Answer: 1954

Who wouldn't want to get away from the fifties?
2. What is the prime purpose of the Time Patrol?

Answer: To maintain the future that leads to the Danellians.

In order to make sure that the Danellians come into being, the Time Patrol have a broad remit - though their official remit is make sure the time lines are left untouched. In order to do that they have to try and study history as it happens.
3. After Manse's first mission into the past, he's given Unattached status. What does this mean?

Answer: Unattached status means you operate anywhere and anywhen.

Unattached status indicates a certain willingness to think and act outside the box but when offered this rank, Manse thinks he's being cashiered.
4. How is Manse recruited?

Answer: He answers an ad in the paper.

A small ad in the paper attracts his attention. Keep an eye on them - you never know what you'll find!
5. Manse's first partner lost his fiancee during the blitz. Who was this partner?

Answer: Charles Whitcomb

Jones, Nichols and Johns are fictional. In this context anyway!
6. What happened to Manse's first partner?

Answer: He and his fiancee were allowed to go and live out their lives in Victorian London.

Charles and Mary were on record as having lived their lives in Victorian London as well as dying in 1947 and 1944 respectively. Charles's and Manse's actions told the Danellians which was true history.
7. Cynthia Denison is the wife of one of Manse's friends. Her husband was forced to become which ancient Iranian king?

Answer: Cyrus

Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylonia who sacked Jerusalem.
Darius is a later king of Persia.
Meander is the name Manse takes while looking for Denison.
8. What gift was Manse given by Bjarni Herjulgsson - we learn of it in the opening paragraphs 'The Only Game in Time'.

Answer: A polar-bear skin rug.

The polar-bear skin rug is not very politically correct these days. Never was the past a more different country.
9. Which Khan was on the throne of China when Manse and Sandoval met the mongol explorers in North America?

Answer: Kublai

Atilla was a Hun and invaded Europe.
Ghenghis (or Genghis) is a title while Temujin is his birth name.
Kublai Khan was the grandson of Genghis and we didn't learn much of his pleasure dome before Samuel Colleridge's dream is so rudely interrupted.
10. In 'Delenda Est', whose society formed the basis of Ynys yr Afallon?

Answer: Celts

In this story, the Carthaginians wipe out Rome and most people haven't heard of Rome. The Aztecs aren't destroyed by the conquistadors and the Celtic civilisation isn't wiped out by Rome.
