Saetan had most recently been seeing Sylvia but thought she deserved better than a Guardian for a husband so he did not accept her marriage proposal. In the past Saetan had loved Cassandra but she feared him so he could never marry her. Saetan might have loved Tersa.

He certainly cared for her a great deal. Saetan never even came close to loving Luthvian, though he cared for her once she gave birth to his son.

Answer: SaDiablo

Surreal gives the name SaDiablo because her father is Kartane SaDiablo and she does not know her mother's family name. At the time she does not know that the SaDiablo name is well known in Kaeleer. She is unhappy with the consequences when she does find out.

Answer: Saetan, Lucivar, & Daemon

Father, Brother, Lover. That is the triangle of men who must remain together to stay alive. Saetan is Jaenelle's adoptive father, Lucivar is her adoptive brother, and Daemon is her lover. This triangle was mentioned by Tersa, the Arachnian Queen, and Draca.

8. Who does Daemon "kill" first at Dorothea and Hekatah's camp?

Answer: Marian and Daemonar

First Daemon tortures Marian and Daemonar's "bodies". Really, they have escaped and he is torturing shadows. Next comes Surreal, then Lucivar, and finally Saetan.

9. Which of these people is still alive at the conclusion of the story?

Answer: Karla

Karla is poisoned but Jaenelle manages to counteract the poison in time, though Karla may never be able to walk again. Luthvian is killed by Hekatah and does not have the strength to become demon-dead so she fades into the Darkness. Andulvar is already demon-dead. Morton is killed by an Eyrien working for Hekatah and becomes demon-dead. Jaenelle needs the strength of all the demon-dead in order for her to be able to save all the untainted Blood when she destroys the tainted Blood so Andulvar and Morton fade into the Darkness.

10. Does Jaenelle survive at the end of the story?

Answer: Yes

Jaenelle lives but only just. The kindred take her away and spend months trying to totally heal her. She comes out of the healing sleep to quickly because she is worried about Daemon so she is very fragile when she awakes.
