Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the object called that Luke and Mara went to negotiate the return of?

Answer: Outbound Flight

Luke and Mara were sent a message telling them to go to a Chiss controlled world in the unknown regions. The message never reached them, Dean Jinzler stole it at a comm station so he would know where to look for Outbound Flight. Luke and Mara had to track down the guy who sent it, find out what it said, and go then to Outbound Flight.
2. What is the the name of the man who originally sent Luke and Mara the message that got intercepted, and what political power is he affiliated to?

Answer: Commander Voss Parck, Empire of the Hand

Voss Parck also sent the elite storm trooper unit to help them out as well. He is mentioned a few times in this book, mainly near the beginning, although he is also mentioned in the scene where Formbi explains the entire plan about luring the Vagaari into attacking. If you have read the "Hand of Thrawn" books you should have gotten this one a bit easier,if you haven't read them, you still could have gotten it.

The Empire of the Hand is an empire formed out of Thrawn's secret base. You don't really hear that much about it after this book, but it's pretty cool.
3. How many years after Star Wars "A New Hope" does this book take place?

Answer: 22

Remember it's 22 years after "A New Hope" not 22 years after "Return of the Jedi". You could find this out by simply looking in the first few pages of a fairly recent "Star Wars" book, and find the book time line.
4. Wolfkils come from the Vagaari's home world.

Answer: False

Feesa tells Luke and Mara that the wolfkils are an extinct creature from the Geroon home world, or so she was told. Although the Geroons do exist (proven by the book "Outbound Flight") the book doesn't tell you if the wolfkils actually from the Geroons planet or not.

Much to Formbi's horror the wolfkils are by no means extinct, just in suspended animation. In any case, the Vagaari are a completely nomadic species, and therefore have no home world.
5. Over the course of the book, how many different vessels is Luke inside while they are flying?

Answer: 4

Mara's ship is the first (The Jade's Sabre). The Chiss diplomatic ship called the Chaf Envoy is the second, and the Delta Twelve Skysprite is the third. This is the two person version of the Jedi star fighter attached to D-3. He is also in the dreadnought that the Vagaari steal for a while as well; it is going through hyperspace when he's in it, so yes it is flying. Luke enters a lot more vessels during the book but only flies in those four.
6. Commander Fel and his unit of elite storm troopers are in this book frequently; what is Commander Fel's first name?

Answer: Chak

All of these names except Dray are real Fel names; they're just mentioned in different books. Chak Fel's name is, however, stated several times during this book. Chak Fel and his unit of storm troopers are supposedly meant to be protecting Luke and Mara, but they are actually trying to protect Formbi from the Vagaari.
7. Formbi's full name is which one of the following?

Answer: Chaf'Orm'Binantro

The core names of Chiss are maade by taking the last letter from the first section, all of the middle section, and the first letter from the last section. Generally, Chiss are only called their core names by those who are friends, humans, however, are an exception because they can't pronounce the whole name properly. They don't have the right vocal chords.
8. What was the name of the Vagaari who was shot, and wounded, by Formbi?

Answer: Purpsh

Estosh was still shot, but by his own people, so he could stay behind and revive all of their other soldiers aboard their transport ship. Bearish was killed by an explosion that Luke and Mara caused. Purpsh's name is only mentioned once in the whole book, and he is shot by Formbi in the first battle with the Vagaari.
9. Who gave Dean Jinzler a ride to the Chiss ship, in which he met Luke, Mara, the stormtroopers? This same person told Formbi about the Vagaari. What was his name?

Answer: Jorj Car'das

Car'das is one of the main character in the book "Outbound Fight" and is quite clever in a number of ways. He is an information broker (originally he was a smuggler), he always turns up somewhere, he has his finger in everything. Formbi tells Luke of his encounter with Car'das and that Dean Jinzler was dropped off by Car'das as well.
10. Originally, what was the real reason the Vagaari attacked?

Answer: to acquire droid technology

Although vengeance was what some of them wanted, the real reason was because they wanted the edge of having droids, especially a droideka or two. They never intended to steal the Chaf Envoy nor the dreadnought, but stealing the dreadnought was an added bonus, or so they thought.
11. One of the four storm troopers' code name is Grappler; what is his real name?

Answer: Su'mil

Su'mil is a green and orange alien who has pale orange blood. He helps the Empire of the Hand defeat a crime lord controlling his planet. He was then asked to be an elite storm trooper due to his heroics in helping free his home world.
12. The explosive that the Vagaari use to destroy the turbolift pylons is acid based, and is called what?

Answer: A Scorch Stick

A Scorch Stick burns its way around an object to weaken it first, then the boom comes to finish the job. Luke thinks he may be able to disarm it, so he asked Mara how long it will take before the explosion occurs; she says 30 seconds. In the end it took less time then that, and Luke would have died had it not been for Evlyen rotating the turbolift car so that most of the shrapnel hit the side of the car, instead of them. Even so, Luke gets badly injured and needs to go into a hibernation trance.
13. When Luke and Mara kill the destroyer droid the Vagaari send at them, it explodes violently. What part of the droid did they hit to cause this?

Answer: Its mini reactor

The explosion was so big that it killed all the Vagaari in the nearby computer stations. Luke and Mara got a nasty surprise too. There was nothing left of Lorana Jinzler's lightsaber, which was used to trigger the explosion. The explosion also turned out to be their ticket into the bridge; they simply slipped past the squad that came to investigate the explosion and they were in.
14. The Vagaari attack a Chiss space station. What was the station's name?

Answer: Brask Oto Command Station

Luke and Mara managed to signal the station by using Formbi's code; they transmitted it via an anti-meteor laser system. The Chiss caught on and soon attacked the dreadnought with low-power lasers, making the Vagaari think the dreadnought was friendly. Since the Vagaari thought the dreadnought was friendly, their fighters entered the hanger, and the battle was effectively over.
15. Captain Talshib's full name is Kuet'Alshi'Bolm.

Answer: False

I don't think Captain Talshib's full name is mentioned in the book at all. He came aboard Outbound Flight after the Chaf Envoy was disabled by line creepers. At first everyone inside Outbound Flight though he and his crew were the Vagaari, coming back to kill them, but obviously it wasn't them at all.
16. Dean Jinzler pointed out that his sister's lightsaber had a gem of some type on it; what type of gem was it?

Answer: Amethyst

The semi-precious stone was given to Lorana Jinzler by her parents, although she didn't know it at the time. Later on, Luke and Mara destroyed the lightsaber in the fight against the droideka the Vagaari attacked them with, and felt quite guilty about it. When they told Dean this, he asked if they could find any remains of the amethyst, but there was none.
17. The Chiss version of a blaster pistol is called a what?

Answer: Charric

This type of energy is used in other Chiss technology as well. The Chiss's heavy laser equivalent is indeed a maser beam, but you would probably only know this if you read the 'Dark Nest' trilogy. A Charric has a bit more power than a standard blaster pistol, and it is a completely different form of energy.
18. Commander Fel is a star fighter squadron leader; what is the type of ship he and his squadron flies in?

Answer: Clawcraft

The Chiss don't have any TIE models at all, although there are remnants of TIEs in Clawcraft design. This might be due to the fact that Grand Admiral Thrawn was Chiss, but he served mainly in the Empire. Thrawn probably brought back some of the Technology with him form the Empire and added it to the Chiss fighters.
19. According to Guardian Pressor, about how many people were living in Outbound Flight?

Answer: 50,000

As you can see by the number of people, Outbound Flight was a grand project. It is a pity it was defeated before it could begin its mission. Originally there were about 16 Jedi on board as well.
20. All up, how many people entered Outbound Flight to begin with, not counting those who were there already?

Answer: 14

There were 3 Vagaari, 3 Chiss, and 8 humans. These included Bearish, Purpsh, another unnamed Vgaari, Formbi, Feesa, Drask, Luke, Mara, Dean Jinzler, Chak Fel, and the Fighting 501st unit of storm troopers. Out of all these, only the three Vagaari die in this book.
