Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following was NOT a type of mist-dwelling creature in the story?

Answer: Giant cockroach with four sets of eyes

The worm creatures liked to crawl on the supermarket windows. The spiders attacked both at the pharmacy and when David's group left the supermarket. The giant dragonfly landed on the roof of David's car.
2. How many people belonging to Norton's "Flat-Earth Society", including Norton himself, went out into the mist and were consequently slaughtered?

Answer: 5

Norton was the head of the "Flat-Earth Society" who refused to believe that there were deadly creatures in the mist. His group consisted of an elderly woman, a boy in his twenties, a young girl, and the man who took the clothesline from David to show how far they got. That clothesline came back chewed up and soaked with blood. No one from this group lived.
3. Of the people who went to check out the pharmacy, who was the first person to die AT the pharmacy?

Answer: Mike Hatlen

Buddy Eagleton was the first to be attacked by the corrosive spiderweb, but he was unconscious for a while before he died. Therefore, it was Mike Hatlen who was killed in the pharmacy first. He too was attacked by webs. Jim Grondin was the first of the group to die, but that happened after he ran away, so he didn't die at the pharmacy. Dan Miller was killed by a spider, and Bud Brown didn't go to the pharmacy at all.
4. Did David Drayton shoot Mrs. Carmody with Amanda's gun?

Answer: No

Ollie Weeks was the person who took possession of Amanda's gun. He shot Mrs. Carmody when she was about to convince everyone to "sacrifice" David's group of people who were leaving the supermarket. David took the gun after Ollie was killed.
5. What sense did the creatures from the mist primarily rely on?

Answer: Smell

It was difficult to see because the mist was so thick. Hearing was also not very useful as sounds could get distorted in the mist. Scent was the key in enabling the creatures to smell and find their prey.
6. What was David's wife's name?

Answer: Stephanie

Stephanie was David's wife. We don't really knw what happened to her, but it's a pretty fair assumption that she died. Stephen King left us to use our imaginations on that one! David tried to go back to her, but he couldn't reach their house. The last that was seen of Stephanie was her doing some work in the garden.
7. When David was driving away in the Scout, how did Billy (David's son) cope with all the horrible events that had happened?

Answer: Slept a lot

While in David's Scout, Billy was sleeping way too much. It was probably his way of coping or withdrawing from everything that had happened, but it really worried David.
8. Ollie Weeks was killed by something that was about the same color as a cooked lobster.

Answer: True

David didn't reallly see what kind of creature killed Ollie, which he was grateful for. All he saw was that it was red, like a cooked lobster. Ollie was killed when they tried to actually leave the supermarket. The only survivors were David, Billy, Amanda, and Mrs. Reppler.
9. When David decided to permanently leave the supermarket at the end of the story, which person was asked to join them but decided not to go?

Answer: Bud Brown

Bud Brown, one of the supermarket managers, was asked to leave, but he felt he should stay at the market. Ollie and Hattie Turman didn't make it, and Ambrose Cornell ran back to the market after seeing the mist creatures.
10. What was the name of the government organization that was probably responsible for the mist and the creatures?

Answer: Arrowhead Project

It was implied that the Arrowhead Project was what caused the whole disaster. The Arrowhead Project was a top-secret organization that no one knew anything about. David thought that the storm might have disturbed what they were working on and caused the mist. Later, the two army kids in the supermarket that belonged to the Arrowhead Project committed suicide, furthering belief that the Arrowhead Project was responsible for the mist and its creatures.
