Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the horse that Jack rides to Toy City?

Answer: Anthrax

The story opens with Jack, who has left his small village and confining life of factory work for a life of fame, fortune, wealth, and consumer durables in the big city. However, his journey has been ended by a farmer who warns him not to travel ahead for it will bring him great misfortune. Jack goes anyways and falls into a pit of rather large spikes (managing to miss them all) and the farmer reveals that he has survived by eating the bodies of other travellers who have not heeded his words. Using his clockwork weapon, Jack is able to turn the tables and acquire the farmer's horse before galloping off to the city. When he arrives, he discovers a city comprised of houses made of faded alphabet blocks.

He decides to stop at an eatery named Nadine's Diner where he finds a wooden server behind the counter who claims that he is out of stock because his delivery of small boys seeking fame in the city has been cut short and he is out of food. Jack settles for gruel but soon discovers that his horse has been taken.

He leaves and gets ambushed by thugs. Eddie Bear wakes him up some time after, introduces himself and takes him to Tinto's Bar to recuperate.
2. Where was Humpty Dumpty's body found?

Answer: In his swimming pool

Eddie describes the situation. He is the bear sidekick of Bill Winkie, who has mysteriously disappeared. He needs a new partner for a case he must solve, so he asks Jack to come along for the ride (to which Jack agrees). The first murder they investigate is that of the nursery rhyme character and Preadolescent Poetic Personality, Humpty Dumpty, who lives in a ritzy apartment in Toy City.

The two detectives sneak in and find that the murder scene is Humpty's swimming pool located under a large stained glass sunflower skylight. Eddie notes that the water level has clearly lowered as there are markings around the pool, but the body has been dead for five days.

When Eddie dives in to investigate, Jack realizes that the center of the large sunflower window is a convex lens.

He pulls Eddie out just before the sun hits high noon and heats the pool to a ferocious boil. While the two dry off in Humpty's kitchen, Eddie discovers a hollow chocolate bunny in the fridge that seems to have been missed by the police.
3. Who is the second Preadolescent Poetic Personality that Jack and Eddie investigate the murder of?

Answer: Little Boy Blue

While the two are in Humpty's apartment, the police arrive as Chief Inspector Wellington Bellis feels that murderers always return to the scene of the crime. Eddie and Jack hide in the fridge and Jack eats the chocolate bunny (their only evidence) as a result.

After this, they head to Little Boy Blue's gaudy mansion posing as famous, wealthy individuals (with outfits given to them by Eddie's pal, Wibbly). Jack is able to distract Officer Chortle while Eddie looks into the murder of the owner of 'Oh Boy!' fashion stores, Boy Blue.

It turns out, Little Boy Blue was skewered by his own shepherd's crook. Eddie also finds an additional chocolate bunny on the scene, so they decide to head to the nearby chocolate factory for answers regarding this recurring evidence.
4. What is the name of the girl that Jack meets at Madame Goose's?

Answer: Jill

They learn from the doorman at the chocolate factory (who won't let them in) that a woman in an obscure feathered bonnet snuck over the fence, then returned with a sack full of chocolate the other week. Since they aren't allowed in, they decide to go to a bawdy house, where women wear feathered bonnets on many occasions.

Here, Eddie introduces Jack to Madame Goose, who also introduces Jack to Jill, another human. After the two spend an evening together, Jack checks in the kitchen for Eddie only to discover that Madame Goose has been murdered and plucked and that Eddie is missing. Jill deduces numerous facts about the murderer (who hid in the closet, killed Madame Goose and slit Eddie's throat causing him to lose lots of sawdust filling) and they head off on a lead to 'Oh Boy!' where Officer Chortle manages to arrest Jack and throw him into the back of a cop car.

However, it's run off the road by the lady in the feathered bonnet. The whereabouts of Jill are unknown.
5. Where is Mr. Anders' house?

Answer: Knob Hill

Jack wakes up in a cell with Eddie who has lost lots of his stuffing. Using Eddie's growler, he is able to unlock the cell that they are kept in and escape to an alley where they find the car driven by the lady in the feathered bonnet. Jack rushes to Mr. Anders' house where he is able to ask the fascinating toymaker to fix Eddie. The next morning, the two of them head to Wibbly's where Eddie discovers that he too has been murdered.

They then go to the clockwork car factory and showcase only to find that it has been set on fire. Fearing that the lady in the feathered bonnet is always one step ahead of them, they head into the crowd (where Jack has to crawl since all of the spectators are toys) and they find that the lady in the feathered bonnet is literally right behind them.

They hide in a cop car and call on the radio for help, but the lady manages to stop the car from driving with enormous strength, despite Jack's attempts at running her over. They finally manage to get away, but they find themselves once again in the hands of the police.
6. Which character is killed in a deep-fryer?

Answer: Jack Spratt

The duo is held in the police station until Chief Inspector Bellis tells them the killer has struck once again and they are free to leave. They also learn that the lady in the feathered bonnet was not actually a lady. The Preadolescent Poetic Personality who bit the dust this time was none other than Jack Spratt, who hit it big creating a line of lean cuisine restaurants while his divorced wife, Nadine, opened a chain of low quality burger diners. Jack and Eddie head out but the two soon realize that both Bill Winkie's car and the car of the lady in the feathered bonnet are unusable, so they eat at Nadine's Diner.

It isn't until they leave and talk to Tinto that they realize that Jack Spratt was coated in butter and deep-fried in the very restaurant where they had just ate. Tinto also gives the two the 'Maguffin'; an object with no discernible meaning, except for when the time comes to use it.

It's after this that Eddie receives tickets from Wibbly for seats to watch 'Tuff It on the Tuffet'- Little Miss Muffet's TV show.
7. Which Preadolescent Poetic Personality is killed on Little Miss Muffet's talk show?

Answer: Tommy Tucker

Eddie and Jack sit down in the studio audience and are unsurprised by what they see. Little Miss Muffet is described as overly-attractive while the show itself resembles an episode of "Jerry Springer". On the episode that airs on this fateful day, Miss Muffet interviews people in interracial relationships, particularly a pug-ugly dancing doll and the wooden chef at Nadine's Diner.

After a quick interview that ultimately causes their messy break-up, Little Miss Muffet introduces Tommy Tucker (who forcefully dominates the radio charts of Toy City). During the rendition of his new chart-topping single, a clockwork grenade falls into his open mouth and he explodes on live television (talk about leaving on a high note...har har). Eddie and Jack return to Bill Winkie's office and decide to call the Hall of Nearly All Records for information, and just as Eddie gets what he needs, the curator is killed. Luckily, they have the info they need, and they head to Little Jack Horner's.
8. When Eddie and Jack destroy the woman in the feathered bonnet, what creatures emerge from her body?

Answer: Spiders

When the duo arrives at Little Jack Horner's, their reaction is less than stellar when they discover that the P.P.P. is already dead, having been force fed plum jam from a rather large vat and tube system. When Eddie realizes that the killer is still in the house, the lady in the feathered bonnet emerges from a nearby wardrobe and Jack is nearly killed. Luckily, Eddie is able to use the clockwork gun and save his partner.

While the 'woman' lays on the ground, numerous spiders crawl out of her corpse, and the two realize she may not be quite so human.

They decide to go to Little Miss Muffet's, what with her being next on the list, but her house has completely disappeared. The two once again talk to Mr. Anders, this time with Eddie's theory that Mr. Anders is somehow a God of Toy City and that his brother, an evil God, has arrived to disassemble his hard work.

He forces them to leave and they return to Miss Muffet's lot. It is then that they realize her house is hiding behind a rather large canvas placed in front of her yard to keep the killer out.
9. What is the name of the elusive group run by the P.P.P.'s (Preadolescent Poetic Personalities)?

Answer: The Spring and Catch Society

Although all of the other choices are major religions in Toy City (excluding The Midnight Growlers, whose sole member is Eddie and whose belief is that drinking should be done quite frequently), the Spring and Catch Society contains the old rich of Toy City; the ones from within the nursery rhymes.

When Eddie and Jack enter Miss Muffet's abode (coincidentally, a house that Jack built) they find that very society at a meeting. Miss Muffet also introduces the one person who claims to know how to save them all: Tinto. Tinto says that he can save them all by hiding them in the chocolate factory basement until matters are sorted out, but in return, Old King Cole must give up his position and he should become the new King of Toy City. Eddie and Jack are caught spying by Miss Muffet's large pet spider (yes, the one who frightened Miss Muffet away) and are taken to an abandoned Dollworks factory to be killed while the P.P.P.'s are driven to the chocolate factory. Jack shoots the spider and kills it with the clockwork gun and they manage to reach the factory shortly after, but to their shock they realize that the Tinto at Miss Muffet's was a fake; he was in fact the evil twin to Mr. Anders.

They also find that the chocolate factory is being used to manufacture the ultra-strong spider women in a large army. The evil Tinto reveals itself as a creature named PRIMROSE and the fight begins.
10. Who kills the man responsible for the murders of the P.P.P.'s and the attempted destruction of Toy City?

Answer: Jill

After Eddie and Jack attempt to offer the elusive Maguffin to PRIMROSE, the robotic creature finally reveals its true form and Jack calls it by its true name, Sredna Sredna, Mr. Anders' evil twin brother. jack also shares the secret that he is special agent Jon Kelly, which comes as a shock to Eddie, who believed he was normal, 'ol Jack. They all go to Sredna's office to discuss the matter. Jack reveals that he came from another world to find Mr. Sredna as his creations were malfunctioning. The creation known as Hitler had caused a war, and numerous presidents were wreaking havoc in a place known as the United States. Sredna reveals that it was somewhat his intention all along in order for him to gain power. Regardless, all would be fixed by his massive army. The maguffin possessed by Jack is actually a key to travel between Toy City and this 'other world'.
Now that Jack has revealed everything in front of Eddie, he says that he must finish the job and kill his 'partner', but when he shoots the gun, he aims for Sredna instead, shooting the man right in the forehead and blowing a hole of sawdust into the wall. Eddie is once again confused, but Jack reveals that he is not actually Jon Kelly. Jon Kelly was a man who kidnapped him in his old factory and forced him to drive to Toy City. Along the way, he told the whole story, and Jack accidentally killed the man in his first attempt to drive a clockwork car. He continued to the city anyways. The two leave (leaving the P.P.P.'s in their dungeon as well to make them realize the error of their ways) and they head to Mr. Anders'.
When they arrive, everything seems okay, but Eddie realizes that something is wrong and Mr. Anders reveals himself to be Mr. Sredna instead. He switched out his twin to fool the two. Sredna slashes Eddie to pieces and reveals his plan to take over both worlds before attempting to kill Jack, but Sredna is quickly killed by Jill, who had been following them the whole way to get her money from Jack. She also reveals her attraction to Jack and the two get engaged. Mr. Anders is able to repair Eddie, who reveals that he may want to become the new mayor of Toy City, and they all live happily ever after...until the next case at least.
