Viewers see in the opening scenes, when Justine comes home from work the first time, that she drives an older-model, light brown Toyota Corolla. This appears to be the only car she and Phil own, as Bubba picks Phil up in his truck to take them both to work.

Answer: A paint that can cover an entire wall with one stroke

Being house painters, Phil and Bubba often talk about paint and painting. Phil first suggests the paint that is different colours at different angles: "You stand at the front door, the house is red. You stand at the street, the house is green." He goes on to mention the invisible paint. Bubba thinks up the paint that can change the molecular structure of a house, "like a chemical-acid deal". Justine is not amused.

Jake Gyllenhaal's character calls himself Holden, after the main character in the novel "The Catcher in the Rye", Holden Caulfield, because he relates to this story. He refers to the name his parents gave him, Tom, as his slave name.

Answer: Motel Glen Capri

This is a cheap but convenient meeting spot for the couple. When viewers first see the neon sign for the motel, only part of the name is lit up, spelling out "MOT Glen". Later in the film, when Justine and Phil go to Bible Study, Justine sees the motel manager coming to the group, and this is the real reason that she runs away.

Cheryl plasters her face in makeup and decorations, especially after Jack transfers her to cosmetics with Justine. In this scene, after Cheryl finds out about the robbery, she asks Justine if she is involved. It turns out that Cheryl knows that Justine and Holden are an item and have been "playing hooky in the storeroom".

Answer: Texas Flag

We see this in the scene where Justine visits Bubba at his home. The flag actually hangs upside-down over the bed. This may be a film goof, however it does fit with Bubba's character that it might be intentionally hung this way. Bubba is a simple man who might have hung the flag the wrong way up. The film is set in Texas.

Answer: Floberta

This is the first time in the film that viewers actually see Bubba with a date. Although she only appears in the movie briefly, Floberta seems to be quite the opposite to Bubba. She is a large, seemingly intelligent, African-American woman. Bubba is a scrawny redneck. How the pair meet is never revealed.

Answer: "Who's Sorry Now?" by Sandy Posey

Jack announces that "Holden was a thief and a disturbed young man, and what happened was a sad thing". He goes on to point out that "we can learn a lesson from this tragedy; like don't steal and don't be disturbed". He then dedicates the song "Who's Sorry Now?" to Holden as a reflection of Holden's crime.

Answer: He finds a credit card statement showing charges from the motel.

Phil is the last person to find out about Justine's affair. Bubba has already seen Justine and Holden together, and most of the Retail Rodeo staff know that something is going on. By the time Phil sees the credit card statement and confronts Justine, the affair is over because Holden has killed himself. Justine admits to cheating, but tells Phil that he is "the only man alive that she loves".

Answer: Corny

Phil assumes that Justine ran away from Bible Study earlier in the film because she was having an affair with the store security guard Corny, who greeted them at the church. Justine tells him that it was, in fact, Corny who she was having an affair with. Bubba and Phil then paint their faces and beat Corny up.
