Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As lawyer Alan Isaacman, Edward Norton defends the publisher of Hustler Magazine in a courtroom battle over his 1st Amendment right to freedom of expression. What is the name of the title character played by Woody Harrelson?

Answer: Larry Flynt

My favourite, and perhaps the best quote from the movie "The People vs. Larry Flynt" is "If the First Amendment will protect a scumbag like me, then it'll protect all of you, 'cause I'm the worst."
2. This Marvel Comic book character is big and mean and green when he's angry, but who is the alter ego of "The Incredible Hulk" played by Ed Norton?

Answer: Dr. Bruce Banner

Edward Norton completed the screenplay for "The Incredible Hulk" after it was abandoned by previous writer Zak Penn although it remains uncredited.
In 2008 he acted in the role of Dr. Bruce Banner opposite Liv Tyler as Betty Ross (his love interest), and Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky (supervillain).
3. "Keeping the Faith" was a romantic comedy released in 2000 featuring Ben Stiller and Jenna Elfman. What was/were his contributing role(s) toward the making of this movie?

Answer: Actor, Director and Producer

"Keeping the Faith" marks Edward Norton's directorial debut. In 2011 he took on directing a film adaptation of the novel "Motherless Brooklyn".
4. In which 2010 little-known thriller did Edward Norton star as a hardened criminal attempting to manipulate Robert De Niro (as parole officer Jack Mabry) into believing that he has reformed and should be granted early release, despite his role in the the commission of a horrific crime?

Answer: Stone

This is an opportunity to see Edward Norton in cornrows. The prison scenes were filmed at the now defunct State Prison of Southern Michigan. Despite superb acting by both Norton and De Niro, the film had a poor showing in the box office and was widely panned by the media, leading to a limited run in theatres.
5. In which of the following films did Edward Norton play a lead role opposite Brad Pitt?

Answer: Fight Club

"Fight Club" is based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk about a two friends who devise an organized way to vent male aggression...and make tons and tons of soap...or perhaps not. If you haven't already seen the movie or read the book I won't spoil the twist at the end for you.
6. Though this film was shot in Italy, it is depicted as taking place somewhere else in the world. Of the following movies, which one did Edward Norton NOT have an acting role in?

Answer: Gangs of New York

"Gangs of New York" was filmed on a set constructed at Cinecitta Studios in Rome Italy.
Though he has had a role (either acting producing or directing) in over 15 films since 2000, Ed Norton was not cast in "Gangs of New York". Coincidentally, he lives in the city of New York.
7. William Somerset Maugham wrote many superb novels that were made into movies. In which of the following of these 2006 films did Ed Norton play the role of Dr. Walter Fane opposite Naomi Watts as his vain and selfish wife Kitty?

Answer: The Painted Veil

I most often enjoy the book more than the movie, but in this case the actors portrayed the characters perfectly, and the cinematography in China was absolutely astounding.
8. In 1996 Edward Norton won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role (as Aaron Stampler) in "Primal Fear" opposite Richard Gere (as Martin Vale).

Answer: True

Norton was nominated for the Golden Globe along with Cuba Gooding Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Scofield and James Woods.
Although he was nominated for the Academy Award that same year, he lost to Cuba Gooding Jr. who won for his role in "Jerry Maguire".
9. In 2006 Edward Norton starred in the intriguing film "The Illusionist", about a magician who has fallen in love with a woman above his social position. Despite her engagement to a wealthy Crown Prince, he devises a plan to steal her away right under the nose of his nemesis Chief Inspector Uhl. Who plays the dastardly Chief Inspector Uhl?

Answer: Paul Giamatti

The magic tricks of Eisenheim (Norton) baffle and entrance Uhl (Giamatti), to the point that the inspector feverishly attempts to expose him as a fraud in order to prove that he cannot be outwitted or be made a fool of.
10. Edward Norton acted in a film set during the 12th century battle between Christians and Muslims better known as the Crusades. The cast of this movie included Orlando Bloom (in the lead role), Jeremy Irons and Liam Neeson and was directed by Ridley Scott. Do you know what kingdom was being fought over in this 2005 epic?

Answer: Kingdom of Heaven

Norton played the ill fated King Baldwin IV (aka The Leper) of Jerusalem in this movie.
