Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What drug was Inspector Abberline addicted to?

Answer: Opium

Inspector Fred Abberline used Opium to trigger his visions. This happened several times in the movie, but I found out it was opium when Sir William gave him medicine and said something like, "This should help you with your opium addiction."
2. Who said this? "You will not see the twentieth century."

Answer: Inspector Abberline

The Inspector said this in reply to Sir William's line, "One day, men will look back and say I gave birth to the twentieth century." They were in Sir William's office towards the end of the movie when Abberline got him to confess to the murders. Abberline said this line because he pulled out a gun and was going to shoot Sir William, so that he would not live to see it.

But a hidden man knocked him unconcious before he got the chance.
3. What was the nickname of Annie Chapman?

Answer: Dark Annie

Inspector Abberline found out, while he was looking over the body, that her name was Annie. Sergeant Godley then told him that her name was Annie Chapman, and her nickname, "Dark Annie". It was close to the middle of the film.
4. Ian Holm played Nedley.

Answer: False

Ian Holm played Sir William Gull. Jason Flemyng played Nedley, a man who helped Jack the Ripper by trapping his victims for him.
5. On the wall by another murder scene there was writing in chalk, "The Juwes are the men that will not be blamed for nothing." But, according to Inspector Abberline, the killer was an educated man who knew how to spell Jews. Then what did the killer mean by Juwes?

Answer: Jubela, Jubelo, and Jubelum

Inspector Abberline found the answer in the book, 'History of the Freemasons'. He found the V-like sign from a vision he had had and figured out that the murders were a retelling of a story from long ago. "He's not merely killing whores - he's killing traitors." -Abberline
6. Who turned out to be Jack the Ripper?

Answer: Sir William Gull

Sir William was set with a duty to protect Prince Albert, who married Ann Crook, an unfortunate, or whore, without her knowing his true title. Her friends, all unfortunates as well, were then killed in procession throughout the film because they were witnesses and he was trying to cover up the marriage.
7. Inspector Abberline's last vision was of Mary Kelly living in a cottage by the sea, surrounded by many children.

Answer: False

Inspector Abberline died of an opium overdose, which caused him to have one last vision before it killed him. The vision was of Mary Kelly living in a cottage by the sea with only Alice, Ann's child, as her own, not many children. The inspector said he saw her with many children earlier in the movie, when he took her out to dinner.
8. Why did Inspector Abberline put the two coins lying at dead Annie's feet over her eyes before they left the murder scene?

Answer: To pay the ferryman that would take her to the land of the dead

When he was looking over her body Inspector Abberline found two coins lying at her feet. He closed her eyes and laid the coins over them. Sergeant Godley commented, "I've never fully understood that tradition." To which the Inspector replied, "They're for the ferryman.

The ferryman who takes the body over the river into the land of the dead. If she don't have the money to pay him, she'd have to wander forever, lost between the two worlds."
9. Who was murdered so viciously in Mary Kelly's bedroom towards the end of the movie? "She's in pieces!" in the words of the young officer.

Answer: Arda

It was supposedly Mary Kelly, but it was actually Arda, Liz's French girlfriend. It was thought to be Mary Kelly by everyone, even Sir William while he was slaughtering her. Abberline found that it was not Mary when he found a severed chunk of brown hair by the head of the body. Mary was a redhead and the killer had white hair.
10. What happened when Mary went to kiss Abberline?

Answer: He drew back, but after her telling-off he kissed her.

Abberline and Mary had a moment and she tried to kiss him, but he pulled away and said, "no, don't". Mary got angry and said, "What? D'you think I'm paying you back? I didn't mean it as business. I'm still a woman. They haven't taken that away from me, not yet anyway!" She turned to leave but Abberline grabbed her, pushed her against the wall, and started to kiss her deeply.

They were soon interrupted by a police officer. He apologized and left when he found it was the Inspector, though. This must have been my favorite part in the whole movie.

It just made you smile, didn't it?
