Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Thonggrrrl14 and Lensman319 were the focus of interest in the film. Those were their chatline screen names. Their first names offline were Jeff and Hayley. What were their last names?

Answer: Kohlver and Stark

Jeff Kohlver and Hayley Stark were the main characters of the film. Jeff was an adult and Haley was an adolescent. Jeff prowled chat rooms so he could chat with young teenage girls. Hayley's identity was shrouded in deception. In the end, a very frustrated Jeff asked Haley who she really was. Haley's response was, she was every girl he'd ever sexually assaulted. Hayley believed the only cure for a pedophile was death. So, she delivered her own vigilante justice.
2. They met at the cafe Nighthawks. They sat down and chatted a little. Right between them on the wall, was a missing person's flyer. What was the girl's name on the flyer?

Answer: Donna Mauer

Hayley and Donna Mauer weren't related in any way. They weren't even friends. However, Hayley saw her as another naive teenage girl who'd fell victim to a sexual predator. Donna Mauer was victimized by Jeff. Donna met Jeff at Nighthawks. He had taken her picture right in front of the cafe. Jeff told Hayley, nothing happened after he took that photo. Of course, later he confessed he knew about Donna's tragic fate.
3. After Nighthawks, Hayley had no reservations about going to Jeff's house. She told Jeff that one of the reasons was because four out of five doctors thought she was insane. Another reason was because Jeff said he had a live recording of a band she loved. What was the name of the band?

Answer: Goldfrapp

Jeff told Hayley he had an unregistered copy of a Goldfrapp concert because Hayley told him she really loved that band. Of course, later she told him she loathed Goldfrapp.
4. The rest of the film took place at Jeff's house. At first, Jeff really opened up about his professional and personal life as a photographer. He worked from home and the majority of his life's work was photographing teenage female models. Which one did he have a love affair with, when they were both younger?

Answer: Janelle Rogers

Janelle Rogers was the love of Jeff's life. Jeff admitted he learned his craft through photographing her. Hayley read part of a letter that Janelle had written to Jeff. She'd broken up with him because he was different than what she had once thought. Hayley asked Jeff what Janelle meant by that but Jeff never told her. Hayley believed Janelle knew about his pedophiliac tendencies.

There also was a safe hidden under a rectangular shaped pit, filled with rocks, in his house. That's where he kept his child porn collection and that one picture of Donna Mauer.
5. Hayley made a few alcoholic drinks. Jeff didn't know his drinks were spiked. He trusted Hayley and they even made a toast to the phrase "Carpe Diem".

Answer: False

Hayley decided on "Carpe Omnious". Jeff replied it meant, "Take It All". In the end, all she wanted Jeff to do was take his own life.
6. Jeff was tied up three different times. First, he was bound with rope while sitting in a chair. Second, he was tied down on a table, and the third time, he stood on a chair with a rope around his neck and wrists. What was the color of the rope?

Answer: blue

A blue rope, clear plastic wrap, and a black taser, were all used on Jeff. When Jeff's down the street neighbor dropped by, Hayley placed duct tape over his mouth.
7. Judy Tokuda was a neighbor from down the street. She saw Hayley on Jeff's roof earlier that day. Did she stop by so she could give Jeff peanut brittle and ask if Hayley could walk her Great Dane named Ben?

Answer: no

Sandra Oh played on the medical drama "Grey's Anatomy". In the film "Hard Candy", she played the character Judy Tokuda. Judy was a mother of a Girl Scout and came over to deliver Jeff's cookies. She also asked if Hayley could babysit. Hayley lied and said she was Jeff's niece and just visiting.
8. When Jeff was tied down on the table, Hayley performed a castration on Jeff. She referred to it as something else. What did she call it?

Answer: preventive maintenance

The procedure, as she called it, was "preventive maintenance". Hayley brought with her a big, blue medical book with instuctions for the operation inside of it. When she was finished, she disposed of his private anatomy in the garbage disposal. Also, she suggested a website for eunuchs.
9. Hayley pretended to be a lieutenant from the L.A.P.D., so she could lure Jeff's ex-girlfriend to Jeff's house. Jeff knew he was running out of time because his former girlfriend didn't live that far away from him. Jeff claimed, he wasn't the one who murdered the girl from the missing person's poster. Hayley professed to him that she had known from the start, who was Jeff's partner in crime. What was Jeff's co-conspirator's name?

Answer: Aaron

On the roof, Jeff claimed, to Hayley, that he hadn't murdered Donna Mauer. He said all he wanted to do was take photos of it. Hayley told him, that she already had known about Jeff's accomplice, named Aaron. Just before Aaron committed suicide, he blamed Jeff for Donna Mauer's death. Haley held them both responsible.
10. In the end, Jeff hung himself. The rope was tied around the chimney and Hayley placed the other end around his neck. His wrist weren't bound because Hayley had the gun, he kept in the bedroom of his house. How did he fall?

Answer: He led off with his left foot and made a straight drop from off the roof.

Jeff feared Janelle most of all. Hayley promised Jeff she would get rid of the incriminating pictures, as long as he killed himself. After Jeff hung himself, Hayley had no intentions on destroying anything.
