Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of Will Smith's character?

Answer: Del Spooner

Will Smith, or Del Spooner, is a homicide detective who hates robots, as they have no feelings. He is called in to help with the case of the supposed suicide of Alfred Lanning.
2. The film is set in 2034.

Answer: False

The film is actually set in 2035, as it says in the opening sequence. Life then isn't that much different from today apart from one thing; robots have become a common thing and it isn't strange to see a robot walking down the street, or doing an everyday job.
3. Alfred Lanning left which book to help Detective Spooner work out the mystery?

Answer: Hansel and Gretel

Alfred Lanning, who died at the beginning of the film, was a friend of Del Spooner. When he died he left the book "Hansel and Gretel" as a clue which would lead to other clues to help Spooner work out the mystery. He left "Hansel and Gretel" to show there were clues showing the path, just like there were bread crumbs in the story.
4. The new robots are called NS-5s.

Answer: True

They were the more advanced robots and were better than the previous ones. These robots ended up being the only bad ones, as they realised that to save the human race some humans had to die.
5. Were there any flying cars?

Answer: No

In an interview with the director, he said that having flying cars would make the story less believable than it already is with the robots.
6. Who was the second man to die?

Answer: Lawrence Robertson

Del Spooner suspected Lawrence Robertson of being the villain. Lawrence Robertson was the second in command so he took over when Alfred Lanning died. Del Spooner and Susan Calvin found Lawrence dead in his office, which ruled him out as the bad guy.
7. How many laws of robotics are there?

Answer: Three

The rules of robotics are one of the few things in the film that Issac Asimov had in the book. All the laws form a circle that is unbreakable but in the film the humans find there is a fault in the three laws.
8. What was the company where the robots were designed?

Answer: USR

USR was the company run by Alfred Lanning, that manufactured all the robots. The head quarters of USR ended up being the home base of the bad robots.
9. What was the name of the robotics expert at the robot factory?

Answer: Susan Calvin

Dr. Susan Calvin was taken from the books by Isaac Asimov too. She at first didn't believe Del Spooner when he told her the robots were faulty, but then she realised that he was right, and helped fight against them to put everything right.
10. Who was the Lieutenant?

Answer: John Bergin

John Bergin was the Lieutenant who was always coming down on Del Spooner because Del kept accusing robots of crimes. This all came about when there was a car crash, and a robot helped Del but left a poor girl to die, so he hated all robots for not saving her.
