Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Poison, drowning, claw, or knife. So many ways to take a life." What movie was this the tag line for?

Answer: Trick 'r Treat

"Trick 'r Treat" featured four stories in one movie. All of the ways listed in the tag line were the ways that someone died. The film had a wonderful cast as well. It featured Anna Paquin as a young girl dressed as Little Red Riding Hood. She was looking for her first time; she told her older sister that she wanted it to be special. It turned out what she meant by 'first time' was her first kill as a werewolf. The other stories told were about young mentally challenged children who were drowned by their bus driver. They returned from the river they were drowned in and murdered some naughty children. There was also the story of a principal who murdered his student. He beheaded the student and then with his young son carved the student's head like a jack-o-lantern. The fourth and final story was about the bus driver who killed the mentally challenged children. He was tormented and killed by what appeared to be a youngster dressed in red pajamas and a burlap sack over his face. He carried a lollipop with a bite out of it to use as a weapon.

The film was released in 2009. It was directed by Michael Dougherty. Quinn Lord played the role of Sam, the costume wearing demon.
2. Alice was a sweet young innocent beautiful girl. She took on a summer time job like most teenagers do. This job was more then Alice could have expected. In what 1980 slasher film was Alice stalked and tortured by a drowning victim's mother?

Answer: Friday the 13th

Pamela was obsessed with getting revenge for the death of her beloved son. She blamed Jason's drowning death on the counselors at the camp Jason attended. Pamela murdered two counselors and thought she had Camp Crystal Lake closed down for good. Steve Christy, the new camp owner returned several years later to start the camp again. One by one, Pamela killed off Steve and his young staff. Alice was the last one left alive, and she was beaten and battered by Pamela several times. Alice was able to get a machete and beheaded Pamela.

"Friday the 13th" was released in 1980. It was directed by Sean S. Cunningham. The film was made on a modest budget, but was a box office hit so it made a great deal of money. Betsy Palmer starred as Mrs. Pamela Voorhees. Adrienne King starred as Alice. She was the sole survivor of the first film, but was the first killed off in the sequel.
3. Who wrote the short story on which the film "Children of the Corn" was based?

Answer: Stephen King

Stephen King, or as he is also known, "The Master of the Macabre", wrote this short story. It told the story of a young couple, Bert and Vicky, who were traveling through a rural area. On the way to their destination, a young boy ran out of a cornfield. The couple struck the boy with their car. They tried to find help for the boy at a nearby town, but soon discovered that the town was devoid of any adults. They did run into some children, and that is where the real trouble started. The couple learned that the children had killed all of the adults in the town. They were led by a child preacher named Isaac. The children captured Vicky and tied her to a crucifix made of corn. Bert, with the help of two younger children, rescued Vicky.

Fritz Kiersch was the director of this 1984 film. It starred Peter Horton and Linda Hamilton as Bert and Vicky. Stephen King has written a great many of my favorite novels. "It" and "Misery" top my list of Stephen's books. Stephen has also directed some of his books as well as written the screenplay for others. Stephen is married to Tabitha King, who is also a writer. They have three children together.
4. In which of these horror films did Jamie Lee Curtis and Janet Leigh star in together?

Answer: Halloween H20: 20 Years

Laurie had changed her name to Keri Tate so that Michael could not find her. Laurie had a son named John and was still dealing with her experience with Michael from 20 years ago. Laurie had become an alcoholic and was on medication to help her cope with life. Laurie had taken a job at a prestigious boarding school. Norma Watson was her secretary. Norma was played by Janet Leigh, Jamie Lee's real life mother. Michael found the school Laurie was in charge of. He started to kill off several of the students before Laurie and Michael had their confrontation. Laurie beheaded who she thought was Michael at the end of the film.

Steve Miner directed this film. Steve was also the director of parts two and three of the "Friday the 13th" series. Josh Hartnett played the role of John Tate.
5. In the 1975 film "Jaws", what role did Lorraine Gary play?

Answer: Ellen Brody

Ellen was the mother to Michael and Sean. She was also the wife to Martin, the Sheriff of Amity. Ellen was trying to adapt to life on the island. She seemed to balance out her husband extremely well. When Martin was going on out the boat to capture the shark, Ellen was there. She tried not to let Martin see how worried she was about him. Martin got on the boat after he said good bye to his wife. Ellen ran from the boat upset over the task her husband had taken on.

"Jaws" was released in 1975 and was directed by Steven Spielberg. It was based on the novel of the same name by Peter Benchley. This is one of the greatest films ever made. The cast were all top notch professionals.
6. Who was the first person that Freddy killed in the original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" film?

Answer: Tina

Tina had been having terrible nightmares about a man trying to kill her. She shared her dream with her best friend, Nancy. Nancy had also dreamt of this horribly burned man. One night Tina had Nancy and Glen spend the night with her. Tina's mom was out of town and Tina didn't want to be alone. Rod, Tina's boyfriend came over and the two reconciled from a fight they had. Tina and Rod both were asleep in her mom's bed when Freddy attacked Tina. Freddy killed Tina in her dream.

"A Nightmare on Elm Street" was released in 1984. It was written and directed by Wes Craven. Wes said he got the inspiration for Freddy when a man in his youth scared him. Amanda Wyss played the role of Tina, the first victim in the series. The film was remade in 2010.
7. Several horror movies were loosely based on the facts surrounding the serial killer, Ed Gein. What horror movie icon known for playing a more mainstream villain played the role of Ed Gein in the film "Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield"?

Answer: Kane Hodder

"Psycho", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and "Silence of the Lambs" all contained aspects of the crimes committed by Ed Gein. The film in which Kane starred as Ed was released in 2007. The film followed the the events that explained why Gein did what he did. It was very closely related to how the real Ed Gein was. They had one scene where Gein was dancing around in a suit made of women's flesh in the moonlight.

Kane Hodder did an excellent job in this role. He is known as playing Jason Voorhees in several of the "Friday the 13th" films. Kane was born in 1955. He has done stunts for a great many motion picture, including "Monster".
8. In what film did Jada Pinkett Smith and Omar Epps have a cameo?

Answer: Scream 2

Just like the first "Scream" film in which they killed off the biggest star first, Jada and Omar were killed in the opening scenes of the first sequel. Phil Stevens and Maureen Evans were on a date and went to the premiere of "Stab". The film was based on the killings from the first film. Maureen did not want to see the film at first, but eventually got into the movie. Phil had gone to use the restroom and was stabbed in the head in one of the stalls. The killer sat down next to Maureen, dressed as Ghostface. Maureen thought nothing of it because everyone was in the same costume. The killer stabbed Maureen repeatedly while people in the theater watched. It wasn't until she was dead that they realized what happened.

"Scream 2" was released in 1997. It was directed by Wes Craven, who also directed the first film. The film was written by Kevin Williamson. It was a good effort in my opinion, but not as good as the first.
9. In the original film "The Omen" (1976), who starred as Damien?

Answer: Harvey Spencer Stephens

The film also starred Gregory Peck and Lee Remick as Damien's parents. Robert and Kathy were both overjoyed to bring home their new baby boy. Things at first were quiet and then Damien had a birthday party. Damien's nanny climbed to the top of the family's home and tied a noose around her neck. She screamed to Damien that what she was about to do was for him. The nanny then jumped and hung herself. Robert soon discovered who he thought was his son was actually the son of the devil. Robert tried to kill his son to save the world, but he failed.

Harvey Spencer Stephens was the creepiest little boy I had ever seen in a movie. He didn't have to speak; just the way he stood made me feel uneasy. He was responsible for his mother having to go to the hospital. Kathy was watering a plant on the second floor of the family home. Damien drove his tricycle right into his mother and caused her to fall to the first floor. This movie tops my all time favorite scary movie list. It was released in 1976 and was directed by Richard Donner. The film was remade in 2006.
10. "Something almost beyond comprehension is happening to a girl on this street, in this house..." was part of the tag line for which horror movie?

Answer: The Exorcist

"... and a man has been sent for as a last resort. This man is The Exorcist". That is the second part of the tag line for this 1973 film. The film was directed by William Friedkin and was based on the novel by William Peter Blatty. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, but lost to "The Sting".

The film revolved around a sweet young girl who all of a sudden started to change in her behavior and mannerisms. The young girl, Regan, was taken to the hospital by her mom, Chris, to see if that could find out what was wrong. The doctors were unable to find a cause and sent her home with prescriptions. The daughter's behavior worsened and a priest was called in. It was determined the girl was possessed and an exorcist was called in to help Regan.
