Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which actor portrays Tripper, the head counselor at Camp Northstar?

Answer: Bill Murray

This is the "Saturday Night Live" alum's first big screen starring role. When you watch the movie, note how much of the film seems to be a vehicle for Murray's antics (in particular the Bus Station scene with Rudy where he describes what he will do with his Swiss Army Knife). Bill Murray is also an alum of the Second City Comedy Troupe in Chicago and a gifted improvisational comic. Later notable roles for Murray include "Stripes", "Caddyshack", "Rushmore", "Lost in Translation", "Ghostbusters I & II", and "Groundhog Day".
2. Early on in the film, we learn that there is a more exclusive camp across the lake. What is the name of this rival camp?

Answer: Camp Mohawk

In the opening scene we are introduced to Camp Mohawk as an exclusive camp for wealthy campers. Tripper ventures across the parking lot to pose as Mohawk's activities director and give a phony interview to a television news crew. Camp Mohawk is the competition during the C.I.T. basketball game as well as the two day inter-camp Olympiad.
3. Camp Director Morty wears a button reading "Hi, my name is Morty", but that's not what the other staff members and visiting parents call him. By what alternate name is Morty greeted repeatedly during the film?

Answer: Mickey

When Morty meets the staff, he says "Hello, my name is Morty" to which the staff respond (as coached ahead of time by Tripper), "Hiya Mickey!" The parents arriving for Parents' Day also greet Morty with "Hi Mickey!"
4. During the movie, we learn that the real name of one of the C.I.T.s is Bobby. Which C.I.T.'s real name is Bobby?

Answer: Crocket

On the C.I.T. overnighter, Candace calls Crocket by his real name. Crocket responds "Oh, don't call me that. Only my grandmother calls me that."
5. Tripper befreinds a lonely camper named Rudy. Early on, we see Rudy playing a sport with the other campers his age. When he scores points for the other team, his peers reject him and he walks away. What sport is Rudy playing?

Answer: Soccer

If you recall, Rudy had never played soccer before. When Rudy inadvertantly scores an own goal, one of the other kids says "Gurner's useless," to which the jerk counselor responds "I know." The next time we see Rudy, he's got his bags packed and he's waiting on a bus to go home.
6. What is Rudy's last name?

Answer: Gurner

We hear his name mentioned several times throughout the movie. Rudy Gurner is played by Chris Makepeace in what is also his first feature film role.
7. Name the female head counselor who is the object of Tripper's affections.

Answer: Roxanne

Played by Kate Lynch, Roxanne is such a good foil for Murray's Tripper. One of her great lines occurs at the dance. After shooting down Tripper's attempt to get her to "go outside for some air" Tripper says "I was just trying" to which Roxanne replies, "well, keep trying." In other words, she isn't easy, but she's interested.
8. The Inter-Camp Olympiad is a two day affair. On the night after the first day of events, we see Tripper give a wildly inspiring pep talk. What refrain is repeated throughout Tripper's speech?

Answer: "It just doesn't matter!"

Tripper wildly rants and bangs a log from the fireplace on the floor, while the campers and staff clap and chant along. Mohawk now has no chance. Poor Mohawk. Little do they know that Northstar has what money can't buy - heart and courage.
9. On day two of the Olympiad, Larry Finkelstein brings glory to Camp Northstar by winning the hotdog eating contest. Can you name his opponent?

Answer: The Stomach

Right before the contest, Tripper offers encouragement to Fink in what is one of the funniest exchanges in the whole movie.
Tripper: "Mmmmm. Look at all those steaming wieners. Do you know what they're saying? They're saying, "This is the year that Fink beats 'The Stomach'."
[Fink picks up a hot dog and holds it to his ear]
Tripper: "No, it's a couple of them over here, but they're saying it.

"The Stomach" arrives at the competition in a chauffeured sedan.
10. In the inspirational finale, Rudy wins the Marathon in an amazing upset. Prior to the race, Tripper gives Rudy a pep talk in which he encourages him to think of himself as who?

Answer: Wudy the Wabbit (Rudy the Rabbit)

Against all odds, Rudy shows great heart and wins the race. A tired old Hollywood formula? maybe, but still a dang good story. Yay Wudy!

Thanks for taking this stroll down memory lane with me. Thanks also to IMDB for the Tripper/Hotdog quote and some of the movie facts.
Peace. Love God! Love Your Neighbor!
