Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of "Mission:Impossible 3", what is Ethan Hunt's job within IMF (Impossible Mission Force)?

Answer: Trainer of New Recruits

Although it is never specifically stated, it is logical to assume that Ethan's withdrawal from field work is a direct result of his falling in love with Julia. Julia believes that he works for the Department of Transportation, analyzing traffic patterns.
Hunt is convinced to go back into the field one more time, to rescue an agent he trained, and who was the first he recommended for field placement.
Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt and Michelle Monaghan plays Julia.
2. Hunt must go to Berlin to rescue IMF Agent Lindsey Ferris. Does he tell Julia the truth about where he is going?

Answer: No

Although he does not want to go out on another mission, Ethan feels responsible for Lindsey and knows that he must go to Berlin where she is being held in a deserted factory. Because Julia has no idea what he really does for a living, he tells her that he has to go to Houston, to attend a conference on traffic control. She is surprised at how little lead time he is given.
Keri Russell plays Lindsey Ferris.
3. After they rescue Lindsey from the factory, they make their escape in a helicopter. They are pursued by another helicopter that fires missiles at them. How is the second helicopter destroyed?

Answer: It is hit by the blade of a wind turbine and explodes.

They fly through a field of wind turbines, hoping to throw off the pursuit and avoid the missiles being fired at them. This is a successful maneuver because the missiles explode into the turbines, and the descending blade of one of the turbines destroys the helicopter that is pursuing them.
While this chase is going on, Hunt is trying to charge up the defibrillator, so that he can short out the detonation device, that has been implanted in Lindsey's head, before it explodes and kills her. The defibrillator takes too long to charge, and she dies.
4. Owen Davian (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) is the weapons and information dealer responsible for Lindsey's death. John Brassel, the director of IMF comments that he has been unable to capture this guy for a long time. Where is Davian when Ethan and his team capture him?

Answer: at the Vatican

Without telling anyone at IMF about what they plan to do, Hunt and his team orchestrate a complicated plan to snatch Davian, who is attending a function at the Vatican, right out from under the noses of his guard. Of course this involves Hunt donning one of the infamous IMF masks, and passing himself off as Davian.
Like all bullies, Davian is furious at having the tables turned on him, and threatens revenge on Hunt's loved one, whoever she may be. Later, when he is rescued, he makes good on that threat.
Laurence Fishburne plays John Brassel.
5. Davian is trying to get his hands on a mysterious device called the rabbit's foot, which he intends to sell for a great deal of money. While holding Julia hostage, Davian gives Hunt 48 hours to get his hands on this device or he will kill Julia. Where does Hunt need to go to get the rabbit's foot?

Answer: Shanghai, China

To complicate things, Hunt is arrested by the Director of IMF, who believes Hunt to be out of control. He is bound on a stretcher and gagged with a leather mask. Before he is taken to a cell, his supervisor, John Musgrave, asks for a couple of minutes alone with him.

While pretending to berate Hunt for his actions, his supervisor mouths instructions for Hunt to go to Shanghai, and slips him something to help him release his bonds. When Hunt gets to Shanghai, he is joined by the rest of his team, who tell him exactly where the rabbit's foot is being kept.
6. The rabbit's foot is being held in a building that is difficult to access, as well as being heavily guarded. How do they distract the guards, allowing Hunt to swing over from an adjoining building?

Answer: They shoot baseballs at them.

Using an automatic pitching machine, they fire baseballs at the roof of the building that houses the rabbit's foot. As the balls rain down around them, the guards are understandably puzzled, and distracted, which gives Hunt an opportunity to swing across, using a pendulum. We do not see what he has to do to actually get his hands on the rabbit's foot, we just see him breaking through a window and parachuting out, with guards in hot pursuit.
7. After acquiring the rabbit's foot, Hunt is picked up by a limousine. He is given a drug to swallow, which knocks him out before they will take him to where he believes that Davian is holding Julia. When he wakes up, the same kind of explosive device that killed Lindsey Ferris is implanted in his skull. How is this accomplished?

Answer: through his nose

One of Davian's henchman uses a device that looks a lot like an inhaler to do this. This device is much more powerful though, because it shoots the capsule up into Hunt's head. Davian later triggers this device, giving Hunt only a few minutes to stop it before it explodes and kills him.
8. How does Julia stop the explosive device lodged in his head from killing Ethan?

Answer: She electrocutes him.

Crazed with pain, Hunt fights with Davian and then instructs his wife on how to use his gun. He then looks for a defibrillator, becoming very upset when he can't find one. He messes with the wiring of a machine, setting it up so that it will electrocute him, and then has to convince his wife to actually throw the switch.

This neutralizes the explosive device, but also kills him. Being a doctor, she performs CPR to bring him back to life, but she has to deal with a couple of bad guys first.
9. Who kills John Musgrave (Hunt's immediate supervisor)?

Answer: Julia

Before she was captured, Lindsey Ferris had sent Hunt a microdot informing him that certain information had been traced back to Brassel's office, leading her to believe that Brassel was working with Davian. However it turns out that it is actually Musgrave who is working with Davian, (although he seems to have convinced himself that his motives in this are pure).

While she is trying to restart Hunt's heart, Joanna must shoot one of Davian's men, who starts firing on her. Before she can turn her attentions back to her dead husband, she hears the approach of another person. Without waiting to see who it is (although she probably wouldn't have recognized him anyway), she opens fire and kills him.

He turns out to be a very surprised Musgrave.
10. Do we ever find out exactly what the rabbit's foot is or does?

Answer: No

The end of the movie finds Brassel and Hunt having a discussion, before Hunt goes off to enjoy his honeymoon with Julia. There is some suggestion that Hunt has received other job offers, and Brassel is anxious to have him to stay with IMF. Hunt asks Brassel what the rabbit's foot is, and Brassel grins and says that he will tell him if he promises to stay. Hunt doesn't make the promise, and tells Brassel that he will talk to him when he gets back from his honeymoon.
