At the beginning of the movie, the camera pans across the ocean and zooms in on Romy and Michele's place, on the top floor of their apartment building in Venice Beach. After the movie's opening credits, we see Romy and Michele sitting on the couch commenting on the film "Pretty Woman".

At this point we're introduced to the two characters as they interact with one another, making their ditzy comments, designing flamboyant outfits and reminiscing about the past.

When the girls find out about the reunion, they decide their lives aren't worthy enough to impress their former classmates. They decide to improve the quality of their lives by getting better jobs and boyfriends. Romy goes out to get the guys while Michele looks for a new job. On one of Romy's outings to find boyfriends for herself and Michele, a suit salesman approaches Romy at the club.

She compliments him on his Armani suit. He tells her he's a suit salesman, which apparently isn't a very impressive job to Romy.
