Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of "Star Trek Into Darkness" where was the Enterprise?

Answer: At the bottom of an ocean

In order to try and ensure the Enterprise was not discovered by a pre-warp civilisation, unusually, the Enterprise was under water as opposed to orbiting the planet. Scotty was not happy about the effect the water might have on the hull.
2. What event was Spock trying to prevent on Nibiru?

Answer: A volcano erupting

Although the Enterprise was only on a mission to observe Nibiru, they believed they would be able to prevent a volcano erupting and therefore save the indigenous population. However, things did not go to plan and Spock became stranded in the crater, leaving Kirk with the decision as to whether or not to break the Prime Directive.
3. Was Kirk's report to Starfleet an accurate representation of the events at Nibiru?

Answer: No

Summoned to Admiral Pike's office with Spock, it became apparent that Kirk's log had suggested a routine outing. Unfortunately, Spock had also filed a truthful report. As a result, Kirk was told he would be demoted and was going back to the academy.
4. Spock was reassigned as well. To which Federation Starship?

Answer: USS Bradbury

Although Spock met the Captain of USS Bradbury, Frank Abbott, subsequent events meant that he didn't actually take up this posting.
5. In London, Thomas Harewood and his wife visited the Royal Children's Hospital as his daughter was sick. On leaving the hospital, he was approached by a man who told him he could help her. Which British actor played Thomas Harewood?

Answer: Noel Clarke

Noel Clark was known for his role as Mickey Smith (Rose Tyler's boyfriend) in "Doctor Who" as well as writing the movies "Kidulthood", "Adulthood" and "4.3.2.1". On the last two movies, he was also the producer and director.

In "Star Trek Into Darkness", Benedict Cumberbatch played the role of John Harrison, the man who approached Harewood at the hospital. Martin Freeman was Cumberbatch's co-star in the BBC adaptation of "Sherlock" and played Bilbo Baggins in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey". Matt Smith was the Eleventh Doctor in "Doctor Who".
6. An explosion occurred at a Starfleet facility in London. According to the sign outside of the building, what was destroyed?

Answer: The Kelvin Memorial Archive

Although the external appearance of the London building was The Kelvin Memorial Archive, it was actually a secret weapon development facility belonging to Section 31.

In the original "Star Trek" universe, Section 31 was introduced in "Deep Space Nine" as a rogue intelligence agency, akin to the Romulan Tal'Shiar or Cardassian Obsidian Order.
7. As a result of the explosion, Kirk, Pike and Spock were summoned to a meeting, which was suddenly attacked by John Harrison. When Kirk stopped the jumpship's attack, Harrison beamed away. Where did he go to?

Answer: Kronos

Although Harrison beamed from Earth to Kronos, this was explained by him using a transwarp beaming device. After speaking to Starfleet, Kirk was authorised to kill Harrison.

The name of the Klingon homeworld was specifically stated on screen as "Kronos" in the movie "Star Trek Into Darkness" so variations in the spelling of this answer, which may have appeared in any of the previous television series, are not acceptable.
8. Carol Wallace joined the crew for their pursuit of Harrison... except that was not her real surname. What was it?

Answer: Marcus

The name 'Carol Marcus' may be familiar to "Star Trek" fans from the original canon, as Kirk's former lover (as revealed in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan") and mother of his son, David.

In the context of this film, Carol was the daughter of Admiral Alexander Marcus, who gave Kirk back the Enterprise following the death of Christopher Pike and ordered him to pursue Harrison.
9. Admiral Marcus authorised the use of new photon torpedoes to be used to take out Harrison. One of the crew objected to them being brought aboard the ship. Which one?

Answer: Scotty

Kirk ordered Scotty to accept the torpedoes being brought on board the Enterprise, a decision that caused Scotty to resign. Prior to disembarking, Scotty commented that he thought the Enterprise's mission was one of exploration and implored Kirk not to use the torpedoes.
10. When the Enterprise left Earth to search for Harrison, who was the chief engineer?

Answer: Chekov

Following Scotty's resignation, Kirk promoted Chekov to Chief Engineer, and told him to put on a red shirt accordingly. Olson was the Chief Engineer in the 2009 film "Star Trek" until he was killed attempting to land on the Romulan drill.
