James Franco played Aron Ralston in "127 Hours", which earned him a nomination for the Best Actor award. On the other hand, Anne Hathaway starred as the White Queen in "Alice in Wonderland". It was their first time hosting the prestigious show.

The 83rd Annual Academy Awards also marked the second time where the event was co-hosted by a male/female duo. The very first time this happened was back in 1957 during the 29th Annual Academy Awards, where it was co-hosted by Jerry Lewis and Celeste Holm.
2. Two-time Academy Award winner, Tom Hanks was given the honour to present the very first Oscar of the night - Best Art Direction. Which fantasy adventure movie, directed by Tim Burton, won the award?

Tom Hanks won two Oscars back-to-back in 1994 (Best Actor for his portrayal of Andrew Beckett in "Philadelphia") and 1995 (Best Actor for the title role in "Forrest Gump").

"Alice in Wonderland" also won the Best Costume Design award. The movie was based on the novels "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass", both written by Lewis Carroll.
