'Tommy', Film Version of 'The Who's' Rock Opera Quiz

I couldn't believe that there were no quizzes on the movie "Tommy", adapted from the concept album by "The Who". Please note that the questions are regarding the film, not the album.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which war was Tommy born after?

Answer: The Second World War

The original album was set in the early part of the 20th Century, i.e. World War 1. The film was set around World War 2 and after.
The song "1951" was from the film. On the original record it was "1921"
2. In the movie of 1975 who played "The Preacher?"

Answer: Eric Clapton

The name of the part was changed. In the film Eric Clapton took the role of the Preacher, but on the album the part was written as "The Hawker". There are many differences between the film and the LP.
3. Who was the movie star that "The Preacher" was singing about?

Answer: Marilyn Monroe

They took Tommy to a "church" where an icon of Marilyn Monroe was worshipped. The worshippers queued up to touch a huge plaster statue of her in the hope that they would receive a miracle cure.
4. What happened to cause Tommy to lose his sight, hearing and power of speech?

Answer: He sees his mother's lover murder his father

In the original album it wasn't as clear, although the song "1921" has both the mother and father singing "You didn't hear it ,you didn't see it, you won't say nothing to no-one, never in your life....". The presumption is that he sees his father murder his mother's lover.
5. Who played The Acid Queen?

Answer: Tina Turner

They tried to cure Tommy, by sending him to The Acid Queen and pumping him full of "strange substances". Tina Turner was amazing, in my humble opinion.
6. Who played Uncle Ernie?

Answer: Keith Moon

Keith Moon played the perverted uncle, who added to Tommy's life experience in a very undesirable way. Keith Moon and Oliver Reed were great riotous, drinking mates. They alledgedly met when, after hearing that Oliver Reed signed to star in the film "Tommy", Keith Moon landed a helicopter on his lawn to introduce himself. Oliver Reed was supposed to have emerged, livid, waving a sword.

They soon became good friends.
7. Who directed the Film?

Answer: Ken Russell

Ken Russell's daughter, Victoria Russell, took the part of Sally Simpson in the film. She also did costume design on the Ken Russell film "Gothic".
8. Jack Nicholson played the part of A. Quackson, Mental Health Specialist?

Answer: True

There are different opinions regarding Jack Nicholson's singing ability. However he was a very sexy doctor. He made great suggestive eyes at Ann-Margaret, who played Tommy's mother.
9. Who played the title role?

Answer: Roger Daltrey

Roger Daltrey, lead singer for "The Who", played the part of "Tommy". Ken Russell, the director, liked his acting so much that he gave him the lead role in his next film "Lisztomania". Roger Daltrey has had a fairly successful acting career, playing the lead role in the film "McVicar", among other parts. He has also had many tv appearances.
10. Which actor played Tommy's father?

Answer: Robert Powell

Robert Powell has played a variety of roles, including Jesus of Nazareth. He also played a detective in a spoof comedy role, partnering with Birmingham comedian Jasper Carrott.
