"Triviatown" focuses on Stevens Point, home of the World's Largest Media Trivia Contest. It draws over 400 teams annually, with thousands of players. The contest literally takes over the town during the weekend it happens, and the film details how obsessive some players get about trivia.
The Stevens Point Contest started in 1969. The competition lasts 54 hours, from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight Sunday. There were 428 questions during the 2004 event. In Competition 35, there were 11,526 players on 443 registered teams.
Stevens Point is in central Wisconsin, which aside from the comtest produces Point Beer. The beer company actually sponsors a team.
Appleton does have a major trivia competition every year, held by Lawrence University in January, which began in 1966.

WWSP is owned by the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents, and boasts that it is the largest student-run radio station in the Midwest.
The school's mascot is a dog -- a pointer, naturally.
WLFM is the station at Lawrence University that broadcasts its contest.

"TriviaTown" itself won some trophies: the Festival Trophy at the Westchester Film Festival, and the Wisconsin's Own award at the Wisconsin Film Festival.
