Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. John's first family film was what?

Answer: Hairspray

"Hairspray" was based on the 2002 Broadway musical that was based on a 1988 film of the same name! It followed the struggles of the slighly overweight dancer teen Tracy Turnblad during her rise to fame on the Corny Collins Show.
2. John's sixteenth film as a director was what?

Answer: A Dirty Shame

It starred Johnny Knoxville and heralded John's return to R rated comedies. It followed the events of a group of sex addicts who suffer concussions. I'd give you more information but it would never get printed.
3. Name John's first film he acted in that he didn't direct.

Answer: Something Wild

"Something Wild" was about a man and a woman who posed as a couple and drove across the country. John played a used car salesman. The film also starred Melanie Griffith who would later appear in John's film "Cecil B. Demented".
4. What movie did John appear in along with Jennifer Tilly?

Answer: Seed Of Chucky

He played Pete Peters who got acid thrown in his face - a beautiful reference to his film "Female Trouble". The film was the fifth in the popular "Child's Play" series about a doll possesed by the spirit of a homicidal maniac.
5. John's first collaboration with Patricia Hearst was in what movie?

Answer: Cry Baby

Hearst played Wanda's mother. Although she appeared in several of Waters' films, the first time she worked with John was in "Cry-Baby". It was also her first film as an actor. The film was about a drape who fell in love with a square. It was kind of like a Baltimore version of Romeo and Juliet, except with more musical numbers.
6. Which of the following movies did John appear in as a priest?

Answer: Blood Feast 2: All You Can Eat

The film was directed by one of John's heroes Herschell Gordon Lewis, and was the sequel to "Blood Feast", also known as the first gore movie. The film revolved around murders of various young women in preperation for a ritual feast for a long-dormant Egyptian goddess.
7. What city features heavily as a location for John's movies?

Answer: Baltimore

Baltimore has been Waters' home town for most of his life. It has been the inspiration and location for most - if not all - of his films.
8. Which of the following is a John Water's movie quote?

Answer: Hey, hey MPAA, how many movies have you censored today?

The rest are from "Harry Potter", "Saw" and "The Incredibles". I think that's the only time that those three movies can be used in the same sentence. The correct answer was from "Cecil B. Demented", a film about a gang of cinema terrorists. Only John Waters could make that work.
9. What's the name of his first film?

Answer: Hag In A Black Leather Jacket

Apparently the entire film cost $30. Sadly copies of the film are next to impossible to get a hold of. The plot was about a black man married a white woman with a member of the Klan performing the ceremony.
10. What one of John's films is frequently descriped as 'An Exercise In Bad Taste'?

Answer: Pink Flamingos

"Pink Flamingos" follows two families as they compete for the right to be named 'the filthiest people alive'.
This film is so disgusting that in some theatre audiences were handed Pink Phlegm-ingo Barf Bags in case they threw up. To John, if you throw up while watching one of his movies it's like giving him a standing ovation.
