Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I was Jesse's foster father. Who played me?

Answer: Michael Madsen

Madsen, born on September 25th, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois, was cast as Glen Greenwood. Glen was Jesse's foster father and the two had a challenging relationship in the first half of the film but then became closer. After implying in one scene that he was sick of Jesse getting into trouble, Glen argued with his wife, Annie, about Jesse.

This resulted in Jesse throwing a baseball through a window. Jesse told Glen and Annie that he was scared but Glen assured him that married couples fought all the time but it did not mean he would ever hurt Annie.

At the end of the movie, Glen was upset when Jesse, Rae and Randolph stole his truck to help get Willy back into the ocean but he eventually went along with their plan to aid the whale. Madsen reprised his role of Glen Greenwood in "Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home".

He also had parts in the films "Donnie Brasco" and "Reservoir Dogs".
2. I was Jesse's foster mother. Who played me?

Answer: Jayne Atkinson

Atkinson, a native of Bournemouth, Dorset, England, portrayed Annie Greenwood. Annie was pleased to hear that Jesse would be living with her and Glen so she told him at their first meeting to wash up and then they would all have dinner. Annie took Jesse to his room and showed him the clothes she got him, much of which was blue since she was informed Jesse liked the color blue.

She informed Jesse that anything he did not like would simply be exchanged at the store for clothes he would prefer. After Willy went back into the ocean at the end of the film, Annie told Glen and Jesse they should go home since it had been a long day. Atkinson guest starred on the TV series "Law and Order", "The Practice" and "The X Files".
3. I had to clean up a mess that I caused at a local water park. Who played me?

Answer: Jason James Richter

Richter, born in 1980 in Medford, Oregon, played Jesse. Jesse was homeless when we first saw him and he asked people for money. The first person gave him some money after Jesse lied to her about needing it for bus fare. He asked another person for some change since he needed to get home and, like the first time, Jesse collected. Jesse was turned in to Social Services and assigned to a foster family, the Greenwoods.

While Jesse did community service at a water park, he befriended a whale in captivity named Willy. Throughout the movie, Jesse and Willy formed a strong bond as Jesse managed to teach Willy some neat tricks.

There was one scene in which Jesse said he wanted to look for his mom but eventually backed off the idea. Richter reprised his role of Jesse in the sequels "Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home" and "Free Willy 3: The Rescue".

He was also in the movie "Cops and Robbersons".
4. I said Willy sometimes thought of me as a mean witch. Who played me?

Answer: Lori Petty

Petty, born on October 14th, 1963 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was cast as Rae Lindley. Rae worked as a trainer at the water park and was first seen handling some sea lions at one of the park's shows. Rae rewarded the two sea lions with some treats when they obeyed all her commands. Rae interacted with Jesse while she trained Willy but he was not so receptive to her training.

However, he took a liking to Jesse and therefore Jesse helped Rae out with the training. Rae mentioned once to Jesse how Willy sometimes likened her to some evil witch.

In one scene, Rae and Jesse hosted a show at the park but Willy was not responding to their signals. Rae told Jesse to keep working with Willy while she gave the audience some fun facts about Willy. Petty starred in the movies "A League of Their Own", "Point Break" and "Poetic Justice".
5. I helped Rae and Jesse get Willy back into the ocean. Who played me?

Answer: August Schellenberg

Schellenberg, a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, landed the role of Randolph Johnson. Randolph worked at the water park and noticed Jesse and Perry break into the place when the alarm went off. He phoned the police about it and was seen watching the cops arrest Jesse.

In Randolph's next scene, he met with Jesse at his cottage to talk to him about cleaning up the mess he made at the water park and joked about Jesse being an "artist". Randolph let Jesse get to work after Jesse assured him he knew how to get the spray paint off. Randolph and Jesse forged a friendship once Randolph realized Jesse was a good kid after all, as he did impressive work with training Willy for upcoming shows. Randolph realized that Dial stood to gain from Willy's death so he, Jesse and Rae worked together near the end of the movie to get Willy back into the ocean. Schellenberg reprised his role of Randolph Johnson in the sequels "Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home" and "Free Willy 3: The Rescue".

He was also in the film "The New World".
6. As Jesse's social worker, I told him he would get out of trouble for vandalizing a water park if he cleaned up the damage he caused. Who played me?

Answer: Mykelti Williamson

Williamson, born in 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri, played Dwight Mercer in "Free Willy". Dwight was a social worker and he encouraged Jesse to try and stay out of trouble after he had been arrested for vandalism and theft. He stated that he worked out a deal where he would clean up the mess he made at the water park in lieu of going to jail. Jesse was reluctant to accept the deal but eventually did. Dwight also informed Jesse he would be staying with a couple who would be his foster parents and advised him the couple were good people. Midway through the movie, Dwight informed Jesse that the authorities had a difficult enough time locating his mom and therefore it would be silly of him to think he could do it himself.

This declaration from Dwight persuaded Jesse to forgo looking for his mother. Williamson had roles in the films "Heat", "Three Kings" and "Waiting to Exhale".
7. I took out an insurance policy on Willy. Who played me?

Answer: Michael Ironside

Ironside, born on February 12th, 1950 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, portrayed Dial. We learned that Dial bought Willy from someone for a relatively good deal and wanted to make as much money off of him as he could. However, Willy gave a poor performance at one of the shows and Dial came up with a different strategy for him since he believed the performance would lead to poor profit. Dial took out a one million dollar insurance policy on Willy and planned to kill him so he could collect the money. However, Jesse, Rae and Randolph thwarted his plan when they got Willy back into the ocean. Once this happened, Dial uttered how much he hated Willy. Ironside had guest starring stints on the TV shows "Castle", "Cold Case" and "Criminal Minds".
8. I was the first one to notice that Willy caused a leak in the observation area of the water park. Who played me?

Answer: Richard Riehle

Riehle, a native of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, was cast as Wade. Wade was first seen at a show at the water park with Dial and he wondered why Dial did not look pleased to be there. Midway through the movie, Wade was seen at a show when Willy had stage fright and ran into the lower observation area of the park.

He noticed that there was a slight leak and a screw loose, which was a result of Willy crashing into the windows to scare off the patrons who banged on them during show time. Wade simply looked at the screw and ate his popcorn. Riehle guest starred on the TV shows "Better Off Ted", "Psych" and "7th Heaven".
9. Jesse and I spray painted a water park. Who played me?

Answer: Michael Bacall

Bacall landed the small role of Perry. Perry, like Jesse in the beginning of the movie, was homeless and asked people for money. However, nobody would offer to help him out. A little bit later in the film, Perry and Jesse went on the run from the cops since they stole some goods and then hid out in a room at a water park. Perry got out a spray paint can and started to spray the room with Jesse following suit. Perry managed to escape from the cops but Jesse was not so lucky, as he was arrested for theft and vandalism. Perry was next seen midway through the movie when he saw Jesse and they caught up on old times. Jesse informed Perry that he was now working at the water park and staying with foster parents. Bacall guest starred on the TV series "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Gideon's Crossing" and "NYPD Blue".
10. I mentioned how much I hated my mother. Who played me?

Answer: Danielle Harris

Harris, born on June 1st, 1977 in Daytona Beach, Florida, played Gwenie in a minor role. Gwenie was with Jesse and a couple of other friends when they stole sandwiches and a cake. They all ran down to a skateboard area to eat up and Gwenie commented on how she could eat cake every day.

She mentioned how her mother dropped her off one day and never came back for her so that was why she was homeless. Gwenie mentioned how she did not mind that since she hated her mother but she also disliked the foster parents she lived with at one point. Gwenie was successful in evading the authorities. Harris starred in the movies "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers", "Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers" and "The Last Boy Scout".
