"Double Indemnity" is the story told in flashback of insurance agent Walter Neff's fall from grace and death. He calls at the Dirtrichson home to get Mr. Dietrichson to renew his car insurance. Dietrichson is not at home but his wife is, she strikes up a conversation with Neff which later leads to an affair and a plot to insure the life of her husband, then murder him to collect the money. All the time Neff's boss Barton Keyes is closing the net on Neff and Mrs. Dietrichson, who shoots Neff when she doesn't need him any longer.

"2001: A Space Odyssey" was inspired by the short story "The Sentinel" and other short stories written by Arthur C. Clarke. The screenplay was written by Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke and Kubrick directed the movie.

Lauren Bacall was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Leading Actress for her role as Bond Rogers, and "The Shootist" was John Wayne's final movie.
