Answer: Norman Greenbaum

Billboard number three, April 18, 1970. Greenbaum actually was a one hit wonder twice. He had written and recording the novelty hit "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago" in 1967 under the name Dr. West's Medicine Show and Junk Band. Although this song (Sky) was thought to have a heavy Christian spiritual message, Greenbaum practices the Jewish faith.

The song is still popular today, and is used in many commercials and movies. Ahh..royalties.
2. "Mr Big Stuff" narrowly missed the top spot in the summer of 1971. Which young lady put this song to music?

Answer: Jean Knight

Billboard number two, August 14, 1971. Born as Jean Caliste in New Orleans, she cut a demo in 1965 which went nowhere. She then changed her name to Jean Knight, so it would be more recognizable. No luck. She quit in the late 60's and became a baker. She accidentally was re-discovered and recorded "Mr Big Stuff" in a recording session in 1970.

The song actually ended up going double platinum, and was nominated for a Grammy award in 1971.

Billboard number eight, July 22, 1972. They were a duo from the Netherlands who had a few number one hits in Europe but only this one in the U.S. They finished third in the Eurovision song contest in 1974, losing to ABBA.

One of the members of the group, keyboardist Michael Brown, was formerly a member of the 60's group The Left Banke ('Walk Away Renee'). This song was actually a cover of the original which was done by Hot Chocolate whose version made number one in the U.K. that year.

The song was about a black girl with a white boyfriend.
5. "Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)" was a Top 10 hit in the fall of 1974 for this band. What did they call themselves?

Billboard number eight, November 16, 1974. This song was created by a group of studio musicians, notably lead singer Joey Levine. Levine was a pioneer in the late 60's of the bubble-gum music phenomena, and sang lead on such classics as "Yummy Yummy Yummy", "Quick Joey Small", and "Chewy Chewy".

The song itself has close to 100 references to rock and roll embedded in the lyrics, be it names of songs, artist, dances, etc.

Billboard number six, October 25, 1975. Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, his birthname was Mauricio Alberto Kaisermann. He changed his name for recording purposes to accommodate the English speaking market.

Billboard number one, September 16, 1976. The original band was formed in 1968, and the name came from a box of coughdrops. The original group actually disbanded in 1975, and was reformed with some new members in 1976. This song went platinum, and the group received Billboard's "Best Pop Group of The Year" award, as well as a Grammy nomination.
8. Who put "Heaven On The Seventh Floor" to vinyl in the fall of 1977?

Billboard number six, November 26, 1977. Nicholas, born in England, was actually an actor first, starring in the U. K productions of "Hair" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", as well as Danny in the production of "Grease". He has also had roles in numerous films, and continues to perform in films and live shows today.
9. 1978 saw "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" hit the Top 20 for this solo artist. Name him.

Answer: Chris Rea

Billboard number 12, September 16, 1978. From Middlesbrough England, Rea had his only Top 40 foray with this song, which has sold upwards of 30 million copies worldwide over the years. The song was nominated for a Grammy in 1978, but lost to Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are" that year.
