Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From "The Legend of Chin" "I don't recall myself, how I went down. Did I get shot, or shoot myself?"

Answer: Don't Be There

This is the last song on the first album. At this time, Switchfoot was considered a "Christian Rock" band. This didn't sit well with Jon Foreman the lead singer, who didn't like being put into that genre. They wanted to reach everyone with their music, and he felt that being placed in that genre would put them in a "box".
2. From "New Way to be Human" What line is from the song, "Sooner or Later (Soren's Song)"?

Answer: "Come back and haunt me, follow me home. Give me a motive, swallow me whole."

The third song on the second album, which also featured the song "Only Hope", that ended up being in the movie "A Walk to Remember". "Only Hope" was done twice in this movie, one time by Switchfoot in the background of a scene, and then also performed by Mandy Moore in the movie.

The line, "Mike was right when he said I'd put up a fight to be someone, a fight to be me" is from the song "Company Car".

The line, "And I'm certain that he hears me, he listens even as I sing my song" is from the final song on the album, "Under the Floor".

The line, "It's my birthday tomorrow, no one here could know. I was born this Thursday, twenty-two years ago" is from the song "Let That Be Enough".
3. From "Learning to Breathe" "Who are you gonna be? When you're on your knees who do you believe?"

Answer: Innocence Again

This album featured two songs on the movie "A Walk to Remember". Those two songs are "I Dare You to Move", and the title track "Learning to Breathe". "I Dare You to Move" is widely considered Switchfoot's most famous song, and was so popular that it was actually redone on the following album "The Beautiful Letdown".
4. From "The Beautiful Letdown" "In a world full of bitter pain and bitter doubt. I was trying so hard to fit in, fit in, until I found out I don't belong here."

Answer: The Beautiful Letdown

This title track is featured on what is widely considered Switchfoot's breakout album. It's a song about knowing that there is something more that the band is living for. The song is about realizing that there is more to the world than pain, doubt, and trying to fit in.
5. From "Nothing is Sound" What line is from the song, "The Blues"?

Answer: "Is there nothing left now? Nothing left to sing? Are there any left who haven't kissed the enemy?"

This was one of Switchfoot's heavier albums. Most of the songs have a more melancholy sound, and a lot of the songs did not have the normal upbeat tone of their previous albums.

The lines, "Son of sorrow, staring down forever, with an aching view" are from the song "The Fatal Wound".

The lines "Oh Lord, why did you forsake me? Oh Lord, don't be far away" are from the song "The Shadow Proves the Sunshine".

The lines "Everything fails. Everything runs its' course. A time and a place, for all of this love and war" are from the song "Happy is a Yuppie Word".
6. From "Oh! Gravity" "Don't believe that there's nothing that's true. Don't believe in this modern machine."

Answer: Circles

This line takes place during the bridge of the song. This album returned to Switchfoot's upbeat tone, with a lot of rock-heavy songs. This line from the song "Circles" takes place at the bridge. This song as a whole is another song about determining what our purpose is in this world, when we seem to be doing the same things over and over again.

On a fun note, The song "4:12" is not only the title of the song, but it is also the length of the song.
7. From "Hello Hurricane" "What are you waiting for, the day is gone? I said I'm waiting for dawn."

Answer: Red Eyes

The end of the song "Red Eyes" contains lines from the first song on the album "Needle and Haystack Life". This song kind of wraps up the album, being about looking towards the next day, trying to move on from all of the sorrow from the previous day.

This song is about hope, looking towards the dawn and the new day positively, trying to live for more than just the things of this world that will eventually pass.
8. From "Vice Verses" What line is from the song, "Where I Belong"?

Answer: "I'm not sentimental, this skin and bones is a rental."

The final song on the album "Vice Verses". This song kind of ties in with the song "The Beautiful Letdown" in that the band seems to know that they don't belong here, and they are waiting to go to a world that they belong in. The end of the song actually contains lines from the first song on the album, "Afterlife".

The line, "Born for the blue skies, we'll survive the rain. Born for the sunrise, we'll survive the pain" is from the song "Dark Horses".

The line, "Here we go again, give it one more try. Don't believe the system's on your side" is from the song "Rise Above It".

The line, "I let it burn, the way the sunlight burns my skin" is from the song "Afterlife".
9. From "Fading West" "Pavement beneath my feet, I watch the white lines fly. Nothing between us here, but the black blue sky."

Answer: Ba55

"Who We Are", "Love Alone is Worth the Fight", and "Ba55" were the first three songs released off of this album. "Let it Out" became a single after the album was released. It is called "Ba55" because it extensively uses the bass guitar. So, they switched the last two letters on the word "bass" and changed them to 5's.
10. From "Where the Light Shines Through" "And all I know, is that I still don't know a lot. I don't know how it ends, I'm in the middle of this plot."

Answer: The Day That I Found God

This song talks a lot about how the world seems to be caving in around them. Being fearful about the future, or being shamed, or having a lot of earthly troubles are all problems addressed in this song. But, what the song states is that none of that comes from God. And the singer had to "lose himself" to truly find God.
