Columbia released "Coming Home," the first album of Leon Bridges, on June 23, 2015 on CD, vinyl, and as a digital download. It peaked at number six on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at number eight in the U.K. "Rolling Stone" named it one of the fifty best albums of 2015. His second album, "Good Thing," was released in May of 2018.
2. In the song "Better Man," what river would the singer swim if his girl would just give him "another start"?

Answer: The Mississippi

In the song "Better Man," Leon Bridges sings:

"What can I do? What can I do?
To get back to your heart
I'd swim the Mississippi river
If you would give me another start, girl."

Ansley Dougherty, Brittni Jessie, Tyesha Simpson, and Njia Marti sing background vocals on this song.
3. What song opens, "Been traveling these wide roads for so long / My heart's been far from you / Ten-thousand miles gone"?

Answer: River

This song about drifting apart from God is called "River." The chorus runs: "Take me to your river / I wanna go / Oh, go on / Take me to your river / I wanna know." In gospel songs, rivers are generally synonymous with cleansing, baptism, and repentance for sins. The song was nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Video in 2017.
4. Whatcha talkin' 'bout, Willis? Leon Bridges wasn't the singer's birth name? What was it?

Answer: Todd Bridges

Leon Bridges was born Todd Michael Bridges on July 13, 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia. His father named him Todd after the actor, Todd Bridges, who played Willis on the popular TV show "Diff'rent Strokes." When he began writing songs, the singer changed his name to Leon, after Leon Robinson, an actor in a movie about The Temptations.
5. Leon Bridges sings, "Oh, I wanna come near and give ya / Every part of me / But there's blood on my hands / And my lips aren't clean." To which two Biblical figures do these lines allude?

Answer: David and Isaiah

These lines come from the song "River."

Isiah fears to draw near the Lord because he is a man of unclean lips: "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips " (Isaiah 6:5).

God did not allow David to build the temple because David had blood on his hands: "But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood." (I Chronicles 28:3).
6. The album "Coming Home" was nominated for a Grammy in what category?

Answer: Best R&B Album

The album was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2016. The winner that year was D'Angelo & The Vanguard for "Black Messiah."
7. "Lord, don't remember my __," Leon Bridges sings, "My __ from my youth." What word is missing from the blank?

Answer: sins

These are the opening lines of "Shine." This is an allusion to Psalm 25:7: "Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD." In Hebrews 8:12, God says, "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."
8. Upon the release of his first album, Leon Bridges was frequently compared by critics to what 1950s/1960s "King of Soul," who had a hit with his song "A Change is Gonna Come"?

Answer: Sam Cooke

Chuck Arnold of "The Rolling Stone" wrote that Leon's "smooth, Sam Cooke-esque croon makes 'Coming Home' the best kind of nostalgia trip." Isaac Weeks of "The News and Observer" said, "While Bridges' vocal stylings have been compared to such classic soul performers as Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, his taste in clothing would have fit in during their heyday as well." Preston Jones of "The Star Telegram" wrote that "the sensation of hearing Bridges' music in 2015 is not unlike witnessing the ghost of R&B great Sam Cooke."

Sam Cooke died at the young age of 33. His first album, "Songs by Sam Cooke," was released in 1957.
9. What kind of taste does the world leave in the singer's mouth in the song "Coming Home"?
