Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following songs features a piano interlude?

Answer: Butterflies and Hurricanes

The piano interlude in "Butterflies and Hurricanes" starts off peacefully, but gradually grows darker and deeper. This reflects the relationship between the butterfly and a hurricane, or "Butterfly Effect", which is the theme of the song. The theory is that even a butterfly's wings can produce a hurricane because its flap can slightly alter atmospheric conditions, and ultimately cause a hurricane.
2. Finish this lyric from "Stockholm Syndrome": "This is the last time I'll _______ you"

Answer: abandon

The song's title is after a particular hostage situation, where the hostages had sympathy for their captors. A failed bank robbery in Sweden had resulted in kidnappings. However, by the time the hostages were free to go, many of them did not want to leave.

In court, many of the hostages did not want to testify against their captors, and some of them had even tried to help in their defense.
3. What song are these lyrics from: "I'm sure I heard you sigh Floating in between where our worlds collide"?

Answer: Thoughts of a Dying Atheist

"Thoughts of a Dying Atheist" shows how frightening it must be for an atheist to die, knowing that their death is the end. Because they do not believe in reincarnation, heaven or hell, or any other type of afterlife, nothing awaits for them after death. It is a grim prospect that is brought out by the song. In the lyrics, the worlds that collide are death and the atheist.
4. In "Sing for Absolution", what color did the lips turn, in the first line?

Answer: blue

The music video for the song shows the band making a space journey from a futuristic planet to what appears as our current planet, except that it is in ruins. So, it makes sense that lips would turn blue as one leaves a planet in a rocket.
5. What is unique on the album about the song "Apocalypse Please"?

Answer: clashing piano chords

The clashing piano chords heighten the tension in the piece. After all, it does sing about the end of the world.

The single for this song was released online for download. All of the profits made were given to charity.
6. Complete the line from "Blackout": "And we're too young to _______"

Answer: see

The line asked is the last one of the song. In the middle, there is a similar line: "And I'm too young to care."

This is one of the slower songs and is the only waltz like song in the album. It talks about how life is too short.
7. Which of the following songs start off rather slow and soft, but leads to a forte (loud) and quickened piano climax?

Answer: Ruled By Secrecy

During concerts, videos in back count down to the intensified piano section.

The song is related to the book, "Ruled by Secrecy" by Jim Marrs, that discusses theories on how our world is actually run by underground societies. The lyrics to the song also present the same theory.
8. In "Time is Running Out", there are sets of three similar lines. Complete the third line of the set: "I won't let you ________ it"

Answer: murder

The song is basically about the feelings one gets when they face eminent death, such as being "asphyxiated" as in the song. The various claps throughout the song represent the ticks and tocks of a clock as time approaches the end.
9. Which of the following songs can be best qualified as a love song?

Answer: Endlessly

Despite the dark lyrics, "Endlessly" is a love song. The other choices do not focus on or even deal with love. It's also one of the slower songs.
10. Finish the lyric from "The Small Print": "And I'll compensate your ______"

Answer: none of these

The actual line is "And I'll compensate your greed". Like "Ruled by Secrecy", this song suggests another type of dystopia where the government controls the populace with propaganda ("bending truth").
