Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We'll start in the 80's. Name the two impeccably coiffured footballers who had a top 20 hit with 'Diamond Lights'.

Answer: Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle

Whilst the duo failed to translate their silky skills on the football pitch to the musical arena they more than made up for it by sporting two of the most ridiculous mullets ever seen side by side on Top of the Pops.
2. We've all heared of the band Right Said Fred who had a hit with 'I'm Too Sexy'. But which comedian and occasional member of the 'Carry On' team took a song called 'Right Said Fred' into the top 10?

Answer: Bernard Cribbens

Released in 1962, 'Right Said Fred' was Cribbens' second top 10 hit, coming after 'Hole In The Ground'. He even managed to reach number 25 later on that year with 'Gossip Calypso'.
3. Which two Radio 1 jokers were the men behind Laurie Lingo and the Dipsticks who made number 4 in 1976 with 'Convoy GB'?

Answer: Dave Lee Travis and Paul Burnett

Only one hit for the 'Hairy Cornflake' and co.
4. Cheeky chappie Benny Hill had a number 1 in 1971 with 'Ernie (The Fastest Milkman In The West)'. But in the song what is the name of Ernie's horse?

Answer: Trigger

Benny had a further three hits in the early sixties, including the, well shall we say intriguingly titled, 'Gather In The Mushrooms'.

Nah... I can't imagine The Equaliser singing either!

Listen out for that one at Maine Road when City run out this year (not...)
7. Slight digression time... Whose 'Eyes' did Half Man Half Biscuit sing about in 1986?

Answer: 'Dickie Davis Eyes'

Okay, so that one was slightly off topic, just couldn't resist an HMHB question. The song contains the famous line 'Brian Moore's head looks uncannily like London Planetaruim'.
8. Right then, back to the matter in hand for this question. Des O'Connor might be better know nowadays as a talk show host, but back in the late sixties he had a string of top 40 hits. What was his only number 1 called?

Answer: 'I Pretend'

Des followed this up with 'Dick a Dum Dum', and actually hit the top 40 as late as 1986 with a version of 'The Skye Boat Song'
9. There was a period in the early nineties when any Aussie soap performer could get into the top ten, but we Brits were at it as early as the sixties. The actress who plays which 'Coronation Street' character made number 17 in 1968 with 'Where Will You Be'?

Answer: Audrey Roberts

Sue Nicholls is the lady's real name and the song came from another soap: 'Crossroads'
10. Comedian Vic Reeves had a number one in 1991 with 'Dizzy' in collaboration with The Wonderstuff. Who sang the original version of 'Dizzy'?

Answer: Chubby Brown

'Who The **** Is Alice' actually charted higher than the 1976 original.
12. And which comic actor released a 1992 remake of the Alice Cooper classic 'Elected'?

Answer: Rowan Atkinson

'Elected' by Mr Bean and the Smear Campaign feat Bruce Dickinson hit the top ten around the time of the 1992 General Election.
13. Radio 1 DJs Mark and Lard recently released an album under what name?

Answer: The Shirehorses

The name is a take off of indie band The Seahorses.

'Love is like a violin with its strings around your heart / Soft and sweet as dreams begin, sadly crying when you part ...'
15. Last, and possibly least, Bombalurina (aka Timmy Mallett) hit number one in 1990 with a remake of 'Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini'. What was the name of his followup top 40 hit, also a cover version.

The original 'Seven Little Girls' was sung by The Avons in 1959. Interestingly, 'Itsy Bitsy...' et al was produced by a certain Andrew Lloyd-Webber.
