Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Their minds were overflowing with the visions of their day."

Answer: Canadian Railroad Trilogy

This wonderful song describes the building of the railroad across Canada.
2. "She rubs my feet while the sun goes down."

Answer: Cotton Jenny

3. "Some say he was a sailor who died away at sea."

Answer: Bitter Green

A very beautiful and sad song.
4. "The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down."

Answer: The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

I expect most people got this one right. As I understand it, Gordon Lightfoot donated all proceeds from this song to the families of the sailors on the Edmund Fitzgerald.
5. "She's away and westward bound/Far above the clouds she'll fly..."

Answer: Early Morning Rain

A wonderful song about homesickness and longing.
6. "The lamp is burning low upon my table top."

Answer: Song for a Winter's Night

A rather sad love song, but one of my favourites.
7. "You'll find me there with the door shut tight/And the one wish that remains..."

Answer: Baby Step Back

One of Gordon Lightfoot's "breakup" songs. Very catchy tune.
8. "...Slanted rays and colored days stark blue horizons/Naked limbs and wheat bins hazy afternoons..."

Answer: Pussywillows Cattails

This has a haunting melody, and the lyrics describe the four seasons of Canada in general, but Southern Ontario in particular.
9. "Is the landlord still a loser, do his signs hang in the hall?"

Answer: Did She Mention My Name?

Another song about missing your home and loved ones.
10. "Her name was Ann and I'll be damned if I recall her face/She left me not knowin' what to do."

Answer: Carefree Highway

An interesting play on words because most people remember faces but not names.
