Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Everybody must have heard this song, it would be an accomplishment if you managed to miss it: "Oh baby when you talk like that You make a woman go mad So be wise and keep on Reading the signs of my body" Which two talented artists sang this duet?

Answer: Shakira and Wyclef Jean

Being the big summer hit, it broke the record possessed by Gwen Stefani of the most played song on the radio in pop history.
For one week it was played 9,657 times.
I think that's about how many times I've heard the song by now.
2. This is the reggae contribution on this list. The singer is only known by his two first names but he has three more, and I'll let you know what they are so you get a little hint to who it is; Ryan Francis Henriques. If you still don't have a clue (cause why would you?), here are some lines from the song I want to know the name of: "Well if a no today girl then a must be tomorrow When you fulfill my fantasy Because you know I give you lovin' straight like an arrow"

Answer: Give It Up To Me

"Give It Up To Me" by the Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist, Sean Paul.
You might recognize this song from the soundtrack to the dance movie "Step up". In the version on the soundtrack, the song featured Keyshia Cole.
Based on my options you might have noticed that I'm not a huge fan of reggae. I will not be surprised if it turns out that one of them isn't even reggae.
3. This is the first ballad released by the famous girl from Barbados. What is the name of the song? "I don't wanna do this anymore I don't wanna be the reason why Everytime I walk out the door I see him die a little more inside"

Answer: Unfaithful

A bit different from Rihanna's previous RnB/Reggae music, but good different. It became a number one hit in Poland, Czech Republic, Portugal and Switzerland.
It is said by Rihanna that the song came from a relationship she outgrew at the age of 14. I know what you're thinking, but she was very careful and added that the relationship wasn't physical.
4. This song was released in Latin America in 2005, but in Europe and the US 2006, and I'm European so I'm counting it as a 2006 song. What is the name of it? "Tengo _________________ hoy mi amor está de luto hoy tengo en el alma una pena y es por culpa de tu embrujo "

Answer: La Camisa Negra

My Spanish may not be the best, but I can translate the title at least (don't even ask me about the rest). And "La Camisa Negra" in English means 'The black shirt'.
It's sung by Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez (try saying that seven times), or Juanes that he's known as. This Colombian was previously a member of the heavy metal band Ekhymosis.

All I've got to say to you is: Tengo un gato en mis pantalones.
It means "I have a cat in my pants". It may not have anything do with this quiz, but it's the only phrase I've learned in Spanish.
5. Can you name this song? "How do you feel, that is the question But I forget you don't expect an easy answer When something like a soul becomes initialized And folded up like paper dolls and little notes"

Answer: Through Glass

This is "Through Glass" by Stone Sour.
According to the band's front man, Corey Taylor, the song is inspired by his rage against the lack of musical revolution.
Corey Taylor is not only the singer and front man in Stone Sour but the lead singer in Slipknot.
6. What song by a girl from the Soviet Union is this? "He ate a slice of Wonder bread and went right back to bed And history books forgot about us and the Bible didn't mention us And the Bible didn't mention us, not even once"

Answer: Samson

By singer/songwriter (and not to be forgotten, pianist) Regina Spektor.
Fun facts: Her music has been used for several TV-shows. You might have heard either "Somedays" or "Samson" on "CSI:NY", "Field Below" on "Criminal Minds", "On The Radio" and "Fidelity" on "Grey's Anatomy" etc.
She also sang the title song for "Weeds", called "Little Boxes".

I don't know about you, but I'm sure there was a character named Samson in the Bible!
7. This song was parodied on an episode of "MADTV", where it was called "The Black Tirade". Below is a part not from the parody, but from the real song. "When I was a young boy, My father took me into the city To see a marching band. He said, "Son when you grow up, will you be the saviour of the broken, The beaten and the damned?"" Can you name the band?

Answer: My Chemical Romance

The ninth single from this New Jersey band peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 but became number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks (which it truly deserves).
The single that followed "Welcome To The Black Parade", "Famous Last Words", is also worth listening to.
Though "The Black Tirade" isn't that bad either.
8. When this female was let Loose again in 2006 with her third album, this song became a huge hit. What is the name of the song? "Roses are red Some diamonds are blue Chivalry is dead But you're still kinda cute"

Answer: Promiscuous

The Canadian singer Nelly Furtado and "Promiscuous". Pretty far from her breakthrough song from 2000, "I'm Like A Bird".
It was the number one on Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks, and reached number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and Billboard Pop 100.

The tiny little dancer in my heart begins to move just thinking of this song.
9. What RnB song is this? "Gotta change my answering machine Now that I'm alone Cuz right now it says that we Can't come to the phone"

Answer: So Sick

The song reached the number one position in both the US and the UK, but also on the World RnB Top 30 Singles.
Allegedly the idea for the song comes from something that happened between Ne-Yo and his ex girlfriend.
But, come on, who doesn't get sick of the thousands upon thousands of love songs there are?
10. This song is a single from Ludacris' fifth album. It's really quite catchy (if you know what song it is then try to sing along): "Shake your money maker Like somebody boutta pay ya Don't worry about them haters Keep your nose up in the air" I know better than to ask for the name of the song, so this is my question: Who featured on this song?

Answer: Pharrell

Yes, that was "Money Maker" by Ludacris and Pharrell.
For two weeks this was the number one on the Billboard Hot 100, preceded by Justin Timberlake, and succeeded by...Guess who? Justin Timberlake (two different songs though).
11. This song is by an artist that has had a couple of stage names throughout the years, and features a widely known female singer. What's the name of the song? "Let's play a game let's pretend for a second you don't know who I am and what I do, let's just put it do the side"

Answer: Tell Me

The man with many names, Sean Combs (or Puff Daddy, P Diddy or just Diddy). Here with the amazing Christina Aguilera.
This song was actually meant to be a demo track for the group Danity Kane before Diddy decided to use Christina Aguilera on it instead.
It became a number one in Bulgaria, Malta and the Philippines (you know, all the major list).
12. This song's female singer had her breakthrough in 2006, and this song was her second single: "I cant explain this feeling I think about it everyday and even though we've moved on it gets so hard to ____ ____ " Of course, in the song there isn't all of a sudden just two lines in stead of words. But this time I'll give you a suggestion of what could be there, and you can tell me if it's true or false. My suggestion is: "Walk away". T or f?

Answer: True

By the lovely Paula DeAnda.
A couple of the co-writers to this song are two big RnB stars at the moment, Ne-Yo and Christina Milian.
Artists in the similar category worth checking out are; Christina Milian (as mentioned), Cassie and Ciara (the C's of RnB).
13. This song's great, I really don't know what else to say about it. Just try and identify it: "Grey goose got your girl feeling loose. Now I'm wishin' that I didn't wear these shoes. (I hate heels) It's like everytime I get up on the dew, Paparazzi put my business in the news."

Answer: London Bridge

She doesn't disappoint even though this song is without the rest of the Black Eyed Peas. The one, the only, Fergie.
"London Bridge" became a number one on both Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Pop 100 (not to mention in Lithuania, Brazil and New Zealand).
14. Girl power...That seems to be a good description of the singer to the following song. "What happened to the dreams of a girl president She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent They travel in packs of two or three With their itsy bitsy doggies and their teeny-weeny tees" Can you name this song?

Answer: Stupid Girls

I think we can state that Pink clearly isn't dead. She's as alive and full of attitude as always.
This is probably the song that makes the most sense out of all the songs released in 2006. To quote Pink herself: "Women have fought so long and hard for our rights and equality, and now all our attention is put on being a size 0".
15. Now that she's gone back to basics, she's just as good as ever. Which one of her many beautiful songs is this? "Would you tell me I was wrong? Would you help me understand? Are you looking down upon me? Are you proud of who I am?"

Answer: Hurt

Anyone who has heard "Beautiful", "The Voice Within" etc, can't deny that Christina Aguilera can sing a power ballad like no other.
The song had a video with a bit of a circus theme (and some really nice black and white shots in the beginning) Anyone else who gets a bit creeped out by the whole circus theme besides me?

Other ballads by Christina Aguilera you shouldn't miss: "Reflection", "Save Me From Myself" and "I'm Okay".
16. 2006 has been a good year for collaborations between major stars. Here is another one of those: "____ __ ___ boy (immediate if not before) Cuz ya got me feelin naughty I wanna know boy If I could be ya shawty (pumba) Set if off boy" You didn't think I'd actually let you see what the name of the song is? That's your job to figure out, not mine.

Answer: Break It Off

Guess who the artists are? I know the question is over but I can still ask my questions if I want to. For you who didn't know, the artists are Sean Paul and Rihanna (both already have a place on this list with other songs).

Anyone who actually can sing Sean Paul's bits in this song? I tried, I failed, I gave up (not "veni, vidi, vici", but close enough).
17. A song by two of the brightest stars in the hip hop sky. But what is it supposed to be in the blanks? I'm telling you it's "Shake That", but is it truth or false, t or f? "_____ ____ all on the floor _____ ____ give me some more _____ ____ 'till you get sore"

Answer: False

Close, but not totally correct. It's "Smack That". The song by Akon featuring Eminem peaked at second place on the Billboard Hot 100.
Other great collaborations between big hip hop-stars are: "Shake That" by Eminem feat. Nate Dogg (has a really cool cartooned video), and "I Wanna Love You" by Akon and Snoop Dogg.

How many songs last year were about shaking your butt? So far, I've gotten it to three...
18. This song is about the stereotypical life of a celebrity in today's pop-culture. Maybe you recognize it? "The girls come easy and the drugs come cheap We'll all stay skinny 'cause we just won't eat And we'll hang out in the coolest bars In the VIP with the movie stars" So, did you recognize it? Then maybe you can tell me what the title is?

Answer: Rockstar

That was "Rockstar" by Nickelback. The character in it wants it all (and that's not little).
Fun fact: It is mentioned in the song that he wants a house on "MTV Cribs". That's ironic since the front man of Nickelback, Chad Kroeger, appeared on an episode of it.
19. She had a huge success with another song and then this singer released the following song: "I love it when they try to gat scandalous Even though they know they really can't handle it ( They can't handle it?) They can't handle it Try and take me out to dinner I cancel it " I was going to give you the name of her breakthrough song, but I changed my mind. So, what is her name?

Answer: Cassie

Her real name is Casandra Ventura, but is known to the world as Cassie. This singer/model/actress didn't reach as big of a success with the song those lines come from, "Long Way To Go", as with "Me & U". It only reached number 97 on the Billboard hot 100 compared to the number three that "Me & U" reached. "Only"...Number 97 is qualified as "only", and I who haven't even gotten on the list.
20. Another great song by the hottie with the high pitched singing voice. The title of the song is removed from the following lines, can you guess what two words are supposed to go in the blanks? "I can see us in the country side sitting in the grass laying side by side You can be my baby Gonna make you my lady Girl you amaze me Ain't gotta do nothin crazy See all I want you to do is be __ ____"

Answer: My Love

The former N'sync member, Justin Timberlake, has rocked the world (he has at least rocked my world and I like it!) with his new style.
The video, which resembles the video to "Sexyback", features the song's producer, Timberland, who also produced Justin's album, FutureSex/LoveSounds.
21. This group has been widely known for their political statements. But who cares about that? The quality of their songs can defend any statement. Just take this one for example: "Forgive, sounds good Forget, I'm not sure I could They say time heals everything But I'm still waiting" Maybe have you already figured out which group I'm referring to, but what's the name of the song above?

Answer: Not Ready To Make Nice

I can stand for that I don't really like country. But this is not country (in spite of what people say)! The Dixie Chicks are just great.
All the songs that were options to this question are amazing. But if you're going to check out a video by them, you got to see the video for "Top Of The World". It was so sad that I actually began to cry when the violins started to play. Not the most macho guy could resist at least feel like crying to this one.
22. This is a band with some very appealing and amusing song titles, who clearly write sins not tragedies. What's the name of this song? "Swear to shake it up, if you swear to listen Oh, we're still so young, desperate for attention I aim to be your eyes, trophy boys, trophy wives"

Answer: The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage

Who else if not Panic! At the Disco?
I love their song titles. My favorite title (the song is not bad either) is "Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off". That one and another one of their songs, "But It's Better If You Do", are both quotes from the movie "Closer".
"The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide is the Press Coverage" is on the other hand a quote from a book by Chuck Palahniuk. Three other of their song titles also originate from novels by that author: "Time To Dance", "London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines" and "Build God, Then We'll Talk".
23. Comparing women with priceless art certainly worked for the singer in this song. So, who is it who sings this song? "You're a masterpiece I know that he Can't appreciate your beauty Don't let him cheapen you"

Answer: Mario Vasquez

This "American Idol" drop-out managed to get somewhere without Simon Cowell.
"Gallery" is written and co-produced by Ne-Yo (the guy's been active this year!) and reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100.
24. Another great song from 2006 was Chamillionare's "Ridin Dirty". But an even better song is the parody of "Ridin" by the master of musical parodies. What's the name of this song (a lyric sample from it follows)? "Yo, I know pi to a thousand places Ain't got no grills but I still wear braces I order all of my sandwiches with mayonnaise I'm a whiz at Minesweeper - I could play for days"

Answer: white and nerdy

Sick of hip hop songs? Then you should hear this (listen to the lyrics, and don't be surprised when you laugh out loud). There is an absolutely brilliant video to it as well.
Chamillionare was actually impressed by "Weird Al" Yankovic's rapping abilities (got to say that I was too, saw a whole new side of Yankovic). He even put the song on his own MySpace. Now that's the reaction you want when you parody someone.
25. And finally a song that keeps mentioning a certain direction. Figure out this and you are the winner. You'll win...the glory of having figured it out. "So go ahead and get gone Call up that chick, and see if she's home Oops I bet you thought, that I didn't know" What is the name of the song?

Answer: Irreplaceable

"To the left, to the left", Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" of course. And another song that Ne-Yo has co-written.

These are just a couple of the great songs from 2006, but these are the ones I personally think are the best. You may, or you may not agree with me, and I respect your opinion if you don't. I just don't care about it.
