Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. He was lead singer of the most famous lineups of a venerable hard rock band, but recorded one LP with another metal legend.

Answer: Ian Gillan

Gillan was in Deep Purple (of course), and recorded the rather ill-conceived "Born Again" LP with Black Sabbath. Coverdale, Turner and Evans were the other singers in Deep Purple.
2. This recently outed metal screamer once filled in for a legendary metal band's lead singer when he refused to open for that band's previous lead singer. (confused yet?) Who was the substitute?

Answer: Rob Halford

Halford, as any metal fan knows, is the former lead vocalist of Judas Priest. Dio was the Sabbath singer who refused to open for Ozzy on his "Farewell" show.
3. This underrated drummer appeared on a few tours and one album with a heavy metal legend, but is best known as a founding member of one of the best "classical rock" bands of the seventies. His name?

Answer: Bev Bevan

Bev was a founding member of the Electric Light Orchestra and worked sporadically with fellow Birmingham, UK natives Black Sabbath.
4. In the eighties, there was a reunion of seventies prog giants ELP, but this time the P wasn't Carl Palmer. Who was it?

Answer: Cozy Powell

Cozy also worked with Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Michael Schenker Group and many others. He was killed in a car crash on the M4 on April 5, 1998.
5. This Irish guitarist first found fame as a member of the band of a former Black Sabbath vocalist. He then worked with a group of '80s headbangers from Sheffield. What's his name?

Answer: Vivian Campbell

Viv was the first lead guitarist in Dio, named for former Sabbath frontman Ronnie James Dio. After a few brief stints with other bands, he found a more permanent home with '80s icons Def Leppard.
6. Bruce Kulick of KISS was once in a band with this popular '80s crooner. Really!

Answer: Michael Bolton

The band was called Blackjack. I have the album. Don't go there.
7. This guitarist is one of the most technically proficient instrumentalists in the history of rock. He led a classic instrumental group and his own trio for years, then joined a '70s arena rock band briefly before finding his way to a hard rock/metal legend. Who is he?

Answer: Steve Morse

Steve was the founder, leader, producer and composer of the Dixie Dregs. He recorded two LPs with Kansas, and is now the lead guitarist in Deep Purple. You have GOT to hear this guy play 'Highway Star'!
8. This drummer/singer for a wildly popular '70s country rock band once filled in on drums for a Guns & Roses TV appearance.

Answer: Don Henley

Henley played drums when G&R performed 'Patience' at the 1989 American Music Awards. Axl Rose returned the favor by singing backup on Henley's 'I Will Not Go Quietly' from the 'End Of The Innocence' album.
9. This '60s Brit girl singer and friend of the Rolling Stones actually recorded a song with Metallica. Her name?

Answer: Marianne Faithfull

Marianne sings on 'The Memory Remains' from 1997's 'Reload'.
10. What rock legend once appeared onstage with Deep Purple playing Little Richard's 'Lucille', and was introduced as "Arnold from Liverpool"?

Answer: George Harrison

The quiet Beatle joined DP onstage in Sydney, Australia on December 13th 1984. George and Purple keyboardist Jon Lord had been friends for many years. Lord also played keys on Harrison's 'Gone Troppo' album.
