Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What 2008 song from Against Me! appearing on their "New Wave" album told listeners to "take some time to think" and "figure out what's important to ya"?

Answer: Stop!

Against Me!, hailing from Florida, brought out their fourth album, "New Wave", in 2007 and appeared on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Their third single from the album was "Stop!", a song about the band and its prospective success. It ended up reaching number twenty-seven on the Billboard Modern Rock chart and appeared on the "Rock Band" video game as a downloadble song (along with "Thrash Unreal" from the same album).

"New Wave" was the Album of the Year from "Spin Magazine" in 2007 (and ninth on "Rolling Stone's" list in the same year).
2. From their third album, "Day & Age", what song by The Killers stated "it's all in your mind" and appeared on four Billboard charts?

Answer: Spaceman

Although all four of these are Killers songs, only "Spaceman", their second single from "Day & Age" and one of their more popular singles, was the correct answer. Hitting number two on the Billboard Top Club Play chart and number eight on the Alternative chart, "Spaceman" contributed to "Day & Age's" popularity.

In the US it went Gold while it went multi-platinum in the UK. From the same album, "Human" was the most popular track (and one of the band's most famous overall) reaching number one the Billboard Top Club Play chart (and overthrowing Beyonce's "Single Ladies" in 2009).
3. Which song from Muse's fifth CD, "The Resistance", was their first Billboard Alternative Rock number one song in the United States?

Answer: Uprising

This first single from "The Resistance" was perhaps the UK band's most popular rock song to date. An anthem to lead in the album, "Uprising" appeared at the top of the Billboard Alternative Rock chart for seventeen weeks and touched onto another two Billboard charts as well. "The Resistance" ended up earning a nomination for Best Rock Album at the Grammys as well thanks in part to "Uprising" and it reached multi-platinum with major sales in the UK, Australia, and most of Europe.

The third single from the same album, also titled "Resistance", became their second number one hit in the States.
4. From Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded", this song was the seventh of eight to be released. It shared the same name of a 2007 film and included the lyric "so if you must falter be wise". What song was it?

Answer: Disturbia

A very popular dance song only available as one of the three songs from the "Reloaded" version of Rihanna's third album, "Disturbia" was on Billboard's list of Hot 100 Best of the 2000s. Going four times platinum and hitting number one in the U.S. alone, "Disturbia" was nowhere near as successful as her first single from the album, "Umbrella", which hit number one in over a dozen countries, but it was a significantly well-received song. "Disturbia" became one of the first downloadable tracks for the Xbox 360 game "Dance Central" and it was nominated for a Best Dance Recording Grammy in 2008.
5. This 2006 song from Scottish rockers The Fratellis gained its popularity from an iPod commercial. Which of these was their only single from their debut album ("Costello Music") to chart in the U.S.?

Answer: Flathead

The Fratellis were regarded as the Breakthrough British Act at the BRIT Awards after the release of their debut album, "Costello Music" which loaded up listeners iTunes playlists with a number of fun, upbeat rock songs including "Henrietta" (the band's first single), "Creepin' Up the Backstairs", and "Chelsea Dagger". "Flathead" was the band's most popular song from this first album; it went to number one on the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart in the U.S., but this may have been because of its prominence on the iTunes commercials in 2007. "Flathead" was actually one of the band's lowest-charting songs in the UK only hitting number sixty-seven on the UK Singles Chart.
6. Before Oasis' inevitable messy break-up in 2009, this song from their second album was still one of their most popular. It was performed on "Lost" by Dominic Monaghan and on "Lie to Me" by Ryan Adams, and it was reported that the band members really didn't care for it, but what song was it?

Answer: Wonderwall

"Wonderwall" is essentially Oasis' signature song, and while it wasn't as popular in the U.S. and UK (on the charts) as "Champagne Supernova" it was one of their major hits also appearing on the "Stop the Clocks" greatest hits collection. Written by Noel Gallagher, Liam grew to dislike it (just the same way the two of them grew to dislike each other).

This single was one of six released from "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?" including "Champagne Supernova", "Don't Look Back in Anger", and "Roll With It". Oasis would continue to be popular until their semi-break-up in 2009 during which Noel left the band.
7. "Hello, hello." In 2004, U2 won three Grammy Awards thanks to which rock song from their "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" album?

Answer: Vertigo

Another iPod commercial alumnus, "Vertigo" was released as the lead-in track for "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb", U2's eleventh album. The album hit number one worldwide going multi-platinum in many countries (ten times in Ireland, three time in the U.S., five times in Canada, etc.) and "Vertigo" won Grammy awards for Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance by Duo or Group with Vocals, and another for their music video. "Vertigo" hit number one on the UK Singles Chart and number ten on the Billboard Pop Singles chart becoming the most popular single from the album. "Vertigo" later appeared on the "18 Singles" compilation.
8. Perhaps the breakthough single for the Karen O-fronted band, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, this song was their third single from their breakthrough album, "Fever to Tell". What's the song title that fits this description?

Answer: Maps

While "Fever to Tell" ended up getting nominated for a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album after its 2003 release (and their next two albums would achieve the same feat), "Maps" was perhaps their crowning achievement for most listeners. Renowned by critics at "Rolling Stone", "Pitchfork", and "NME", it was number nine on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart from Billboard.

Other songs from the album like "Y Control" and "Date with the Night" emerged as more upbeat singles but neither matched the popularity of "Maps".

In fact, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs wouldn't have significantly popular hits until their third album, "It's Blitz!", with the songs "Zero" and "Heads Will Roll" (which was used in the popular Superbowl episode of "Glee").
9. "Buy it, use it, break it, fix it, trash it, change it, mail, upgrade it." Which Daft Punk song from their "Human After All" album featured a number of similar lines?

Answer: Technologic

"Technologic" was the second single released from Daft Punk's electronica album "Human After All", their third original album. A slight departure from their earlier two styles, "Human After All" took on a futuristic sound which would persist through their later music, especially in the soundtrack for "Tron: Legacy", the entirety of which they produced.

A song comprised entirely of technological terms spoken by a computerized voice, it's one of their most famous later songs. It also appeared in "Alive 2007", their second live CD.
10. In 2008, Flobots claimed that they could ride their bikes without which of these in their debut single?

Answer: Handlebars

Reaching number three on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart upon its release in the U.S. in 2008, "Handlebars" was quick to achieve fame as a summer hit. Although it starts out quite calm and collected, the lyrics of the song gradually explode into a one-up after one-up of clever talents.

It appeared on five different Billboard charts and appeared on the Flobots' debut album, "Fight with Tools", the sales of which spiked upon the hit song's initial release.
