Boito's libretti were for Verdi last two operas, Otello and Falstaff.
4. Before Verdi's "Otello", which other Italian composer had already composed the music for a version of "Othello"?

5. In composing his "Manon Lescaut", Puccini said that was not setting scenes from L'Abbe Provost's novel which had already been used in the operatic version by whom?

Answer: Massenet

Auber also composed an opera about Manon Lescaut.

7. Who composed an opera called "La Boheme" after Puccini rejected the libretto which he had written for it?

Answer: Leoncavallo

The timing and circumstances made it impossible for Leoncavallo's work to gain a place in the usual operatic repertoire.
8. Whose opera about Joan of Arc has her dying in battle?

Answer: Verdi

Tchaikovsky's opera "The Maid of Orleans" amd Honneger's oratorio "Joan of Arc at the Stake" both end with Joan being condemned to the stake as a witch.
9. Which of Bellini's operas tells the same story as Gounod's "Romeo et Juliette"?

Answer: I Capuleti e Montecchi

Bellini's version is not based on Shakespeare's version of the story.
10. The story of Orpheus' descent into Hades to rescue Eurydice is told in operas by ?

Answer: Monteverdi and Gluck

Gluck's libretto allows a happier ending than Monteverdi's, in which Eurydice returns to Hades never to see the light again. Offenbach's "Orpheus in the Underworld" is regarded as an operetta, not an opera.
