Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which city name fits in the following lyrics? "Don't give me all your northern pain, Don't sell me _______ in the rain."

Answer: New York

The lyrics are from the song "The Way it Used to Be". The song was found on their "Yes" album, released in 2009. The song "King of Rome" was another track on the album.
2. A very nice enumeration dating back to 1995: "Passion, love, sex, money, violence, religion, _______ and death." What word fills the Pet Shop Boys' lyric?

Answer: injustice

"Paninaro '95" was one of their hits from "Alternative". The '95 version had a slight change of lyrics, a much more dynamic rhythm, and a brand new clip. They actually burnt an Armani suit in the clip!
3. A truly wonderful piece by the Pet Shop Boys was one that featured the famous female singer Dusty Springfield. What is Neil Tennant's missing word in the lyrics? "I bought you drinks, I brought you flowers, I read your books and talked for hours, Every day so many _______ such pretty flowers, so tell me, What have I, what have I, what have I done to deserve this?"

Answer: drinks

The song "What Have I Done To Deserve This?" was also performed at the Brit Awards by the Pet Shop Boys. The video clip shows Chris Lowe simulating trumpet-playing and doing a brief dancing (360 rotation) movement, which is very rare, considering the boys don't usually perform choreographed moves.
4. The blond-haired kid that appears in the "New York City Boy" video appears in another of the Pet Shop Boys' clips. What is the name of the clip? (Hint: in this video, he wears no shirt).

Answer: I Get Along/E-Mail

"I Get Along" starts with the image of the blond-haired boy running half naked in a garden. You can see him getting ready to hit the streets and gazing at the "hardware at the latest deal" in "New York City Boy".
5. The Pet Shop Boys had a great beginning with albums like "Please" and "Actually". Which of these songs was not featured on "Please"?

Answer: It's a Sin

The name for the album was chosen as such to be a pun when the people would ask to buy it. "Please" was released before "Actually", actually. ;)

It is interesting to note that none of the Boys' album names are longer than one word.
6. The clip for "Was it Worth It?" contained scenes filmed in two night clubs. What is the name of the famous club in which Chris Lowe appears with a red hat on his head?

Answer: Kinky Gerlinky

If you answered "Kinky Gerlinky", you were right. For the most part, the clip includes scenes filmed there. It is also true that there were scenes shot in club "Heaven" as well, where the Pet Shop Boys were performing live.
7. "Jealousy" featured two versions of the song, a short version and an extended one. The extended version begins with lyrics spoken by Neil Tennant that are extracted from which famous Shakespearean play?

Answer: Othello

"Not poppy nor mandragora,
Nor all the drowsy syrups of the world,
Shall ever medicine thee
To that sweet sleep
Which thou owedst yesterday".

These are the lines that Neil Tennant begins and ends the extended version with. "Jealousy" was released in 1991.
8. Pet Shop Boys once had a movie that was intended to promote their songs, like "Always On My Mind", for example. "It Couldn't Happen Here" is the name of the movie and the track. Tell me please, when was the movie released?

Answer: 1988

The movie features Jack Bond as the crazy, blind priest. At the end of the promotional clip that featured cuts from the movie, "Always On My Mind", Jack quotes some lines from "What Have I Done to Deserve This?".

"You went away
It should make me feel better,
But I don't know how I am gonna get through".
9. Where did the video for Pet Shop Boys' "Domino Dancing" get filmed?

Answer: Puerto Rico

The video featured Donna Bottman, who is the beautiful girl that the boys are fighting for. The "boys" are not actually the Pet Shop Boys, obviously. Maybe this reminds you of Vaya con Dios' song with the same name?
10. According to the Pet Shop Boys in their "PopArt" video DVD commentary, the video for "London" features two boys that cruise London. They actually get to see London as it is, and not as it is presented in travel guides. They see poor people, pirated goods sold at the flea market, and even garbage that's gathered in the street. Where are these boys from?

Answer: Russia

The boys are from Russia. They can be seen waiting at the ATM to withdraw money, or even being flirted with after they pass an adult shop. "PopArt" was released in 2003.
